The panel on this ampoule names four forms of collagen rather than one: Collagen, Collagen Extract, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Water-Soluble Collagen. Collagen is the structural protein that makes up most of the dermis. Applied on top it is far too large to enter skin, so in a formula it works as a humectant and a smoothing film former.
