Korean sun care: texture, finish and filter systems

Korean sun care is the most texturally advanced category in skincare and it is not close. The reason is regulatory rather than cosmetic genius: the filter systems available to a Korean formulator include modern, photostable, high-molar-absorptivity organic filters that a US formulator working to the American monograph cannot use. Those filters do more with less material, and less material is exactly what makes a fluid feel like an essence instead of a lotion.

That is why a Korean sun fluid can be genuinely weightless, leave no cast, sit under makeup and be reapplied at midday by someone who would never reapply a thick Western formula. It is also why a product with the same name on a US shelf is a different formula, built from a different filter list, with a different feel. The two are not interchangeable and it is not a marketing choice.

Korean sun care is regulated as a functional cosmetic in Korea and as an over-the-counter drug in the United States, and those are different regimes with different labelling. We are not going to make a US protection claim for a product that was not tested under US rules, whatever the box says in Korean.
