How it works
The Red Effect Serum 1.05 Pump is a 30ml serum, used after toner and before moisturizer, morning and evening. The active it is built around is Niacinamide, named fourth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, Alpha-Arbutin and Adenosine, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Niacinamide stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the serum format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the serum Abib sells in Korea, Niacinamide and all.
Key benefits
- Niacinamide, the active this serum is built around
- Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, Alpha-Arbutin and Adenosine on the same list, actives
- Astaxanthin on the same list, an antioxidant
- Haematococcus Pluvialis Oil and Ascorbic Acid further down the same list
- Tocopherol and Panthenol further down the same list
- Niacinamide named fourth on the manufacturer list printed on this page
Key actives
Niacinamideactive
Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. On this serum's own ingredient list it is named fourth.
Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotideactive
Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, usually written NAD, is a coenzyme every living cell carries, built from vitamin B3. In a formula it is used as a conditioning active at very low levels. It is named sixth on this serum's list, alongside Niacinamide.
Alpha-Arbutinactive
Alpha-Arbutin is a plant-derived compound, related to the sugar-bound form found in bearberry, used for the look of dark spots and uneven tone. It is stable in water and works at skin-friendly pH. The panel names it eighth on this serum's list, beside Niacinamide.
Adenosineactive
Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated. The panel names it thirteenth on this serum's list, beside Niacinamide.
Astaxanthinantioxidant
Astaxanthin is a deep red antioxidant from microalgae, the pigment that makes salmon pink. It is oil soluble, colours a formula noticeably, and is used as an antioxidant. It is named twelfth on this serum's list, alongside Niacinamide.
Where does this serum go in my routine?
After toner and before moisturizer, morning and evening. Anything thinner than a serum goes on before it, and anything richer goes on after. If you are adding it to a routine you already like, give it a week on its own first, so what you see is the Niacinamide and not three changes at once.
Is this the Korean-market serum or a US version?
The Korean-market one, Niacinamide and all. We match this serum to its Korean barcode before it reaches the shelf, which is the check that tells you which market release you are holding.
What else is on the list besides Niacinamide?
Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide, Alpha-Arbutin and Adenosine. The order they are printed in on this serum's panel is the order on the box, so you can see where Niacinamide sits relative to them. Further down the same panel: Astaxanthin, Haematococcus Pluvialis Oil and Ascorbic Acid.

How to use
- Apply it in the morning after the toner, while the skin is still slightly damp.
- Press two pumps over the whole face rather than dotting it on the blotchy areas only.
- Wait half a minute, then apply moisturizer and finish with sunscreen as the last layer.
- Do not leave the pump uncapped or decant it into another bottle, since an antioxidant formula does better with less air.
Worth knowing
- Patch test on a small area before full-face use if you have known sensitivities.
- Discontinue use if irritation, redness, or discomfort develops.
