How to use
- Use the Honey & Milk Lip Balm on clean lips, at any point in the day and again as the last thing before bed.
- One pass over each lip is enough, taken just past the lip line rather than well beyond it.
- It goes on last over any lip product, and on bare lips it needs nothing underneath it.
- As often as lips feel dry. Do not reapply over and over in place of drinking water; a balm holds moisture in, it does not add any.
Does this product contain added fragrance?
Yes. The ingredient list for A'PIEU Honey & Milk Lip Balm 3.3g includes Fragrance. That is the label name for an added scent blend, whose individual components are not itemised beyond any allergens the label declares separately. The full list is printed in the Ingredients section of this page.
Are any declarable fragrance allergens listed?
No. None of the 26 fragrance components that EU cosmetic labelling requires to be named individually appear on the ingredient list for A'PIEU Honey & Milk Lip Balm 3.3g. They are the components most often reported as contact allergens, which is why that rule names them one by one.
Does this product contain denatured or SD alcohol?
No. The ingredient list for A'PIEU Honey & Milk Lip Balm 3.3g names no denatured alcohol, SD alcohol or ethanol. Fatty alcohols such as cetyl and cetearyl alcohol are a different class of ingredient, used as emollients and thickeners, and are not counted here.
Not on the ingredient list below: denatured or SD alcohol, essential oils, silicones, parabens, sulfate surfactants and added color.

20 of 23 explained
- Petrolatum occlusive
- Petrolatum is a purified blend of mineral hydrocarbons. It is the most effective occlusive known, cutting water loss from skin by well over ninety percent, and it is inert and does not feed microbes.
- Diisostearyl Malate emollient
- Diisostearyl Malate is a thick, glossy ester used to hold pigment in suspension and give a cushioned shine. It is the standard emollient in lip products.
- Methyl Hydrogenated Rosinate film former
- A modified pine rosin used in lip formulas. It is tacky and glossy, which is what makes a gloss cling and shine.
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride emollient
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is the light fraction of coconut oil, with the heavy parts removed. It is the workhorse emollient of modern formulas: it softens skin, dissolves oil-soluble actives and absorbs without the greasy weight of a whole plant oil.
- Ricinus Communis (castor) Seed Oil emollient
- Castor Oil is thick, glossy and unusually good at dissolving pigment, which is why it dominates lip and cleansing-balm formulas. It is a heavy emollient.
- Microcrystalline Wax occlusive
- Microcrystalline Wax is a fine-crystalled petroleum wax. It gives balms and sticks body and flexibility and holds oil from separating out.
- Octyldodecanol emollient
- Octyldodecanol is a branched fatty alcohol used as an emollient and as a solvent for pigments and mineral powders. It thickens slightly and leaves a soft finish.
- Ozokerite occlusive
- Ozokerite is a mineral wax used to set sticks and balms. It binds oils into a solid that holds its shape in heat instead of sweating or blooming on the surface.
- Polyethylene thickener
- Polyethylene in a formula is a wax-like polymer used to thicken oils and set sticks. It is the same polymer family as plastic film, in a soft grade.
- Phytosteryl/Isostearyl/Cetyl/Stearyl/Behenyl Dimer Dilinoleate emollient
- This is a heavy plant-sterol ester used in balms and cleansing oils. It softens skin, holds pigment and gives a thick, cushioned glide.
- Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil occlusive
- Plant oil hardened by hydrogenation. It behaves as a soft solid, so it gives balms and sticks their body and slows water loss from the surface.
- Honey Extract humectant
- Honey is a natural humectant loaded with sugars and trace acids. In a formula it holds water at the surface and leaves a soft, cushioned feel.
8 more explained
- Milk Protein Extract protein
- Milk Protein Extract supplies milk proteins and the lactose alongside them. It is used as a conditioning, water-holding ingredient.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate emulsifier
- Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate is a water-in-oil emulsifier used in balms and rich creams, and a good pigment disperser.
- Tocopheryl Acetate antioxidant
- Tocopheryl Acetate is a stable vitamin E ester that skin converts to tocopherol. It is used as an antioxidant and a light emollient and holds up better than plain vitamin E in a formula.
- Water solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Propylene Glycol humectant
- Propylene Glycol is a small glycol used as a humectant and solvent. It hydrates and helps actives dissolve; newer formulas often swap it for propanediol, which does the same job with a lighter feel.
- Phenoxyethanol preservative
- Phenoxyethanol is the most widely used cosmetic preservative outside the paraben family. It keeps a water-containing formula from growing bacteria and mould, and is capped at one percent in most markets, so it always sits low on a list.
- Fragrance fragrance
- Fragrance, or Parfum, is a single declaration standing for a whole scent blend, which can be dozens of materials. Regulators allow it as a trade secret, so a list showing only this word does not say what the scent is made of. It is the most common trigger named by people with reactive skin.
