Benton
Bakuchiol Serum 35ml
Bakuchiol Serum is Benton's ampoule serum (35ml), built around Bakuchiol and Niacinamide. It is used after toner and before moisturizer, as the routine's concentrated treatment step. This is the same formula Korean shoppers buy off the shelf in Seoul, not a version built for US retail.

Key actives
4Bakuchiolactive
Bakuchiol is a compound from the babchi seed, used as a plant-derived alternative to retinol. It is oil soluble, stable in daylight and does not carry retinol's acclimatisation period, which is why sensitive-skin formulas choose it. The name on the box points at it, and it is named fourth on this serum's own ingredient list.
5Niacinamideactive
Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is named fifth on this serum's list, alongside Bakuchiol.
18Allantoinactive
Allantoin is a comfrey-derived compound used to condition skin and soften the outer layer so it feels smoother. It is one of the standard additions to a formula built for easily irritated skin. The panel names it eighteenth on this serum's list, beside Bakuchiol.
19Adenosineactive
Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated. It is named nineteenth on this serum's list, alongside Bakuchiol.
20Tocopherolantioxidant
Tocopherol is vitamin E. It is an oil-soluble antioxidant that protects the oils in a formula from going rancid and works on skin as an emollient, and it is regularly paired with vitamin C because each keeps the other going for longer. The panel names it twentieth on this serum's list, beside Bakuchiol.

Where does this serum go in my routine?
After toner and before moisturizer, morning and evening. Anything thinner than a serum goes on before it, and anything richer goes on after. If you are adding it to a routine you already like, give it a week on its own first, so what you see is the Bakuchiol and not three changes at once.
Is this the Korean-market serum or a US version?
The Korean-market one, Bakuchiol and all. We match this serum to its Korean barcode before it reaches the shelf, which is the check that tells you which market release you are holding.
What else is on the list besides Bakuchiol?
Niacinamide, Allantoin and Adenosine. The order they are printed in on this serum's panel is the order on the box, so you can see where Bakuchiol sits relative to them. Further down the same panel: Tocopherol, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Extract and Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Leaf Extract.
Not on the ingredient list below: fragrance or parfum, denatured or SD alcohol, silicones, parabens, sulfate surfactants, mineral oil or petrolatum and added color.
Full INCI (23): Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Bakuchiol, Niacinamide, 1,2-Hexanediol, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Behenyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Psoralea Corylifolia Fruit Extract, Carbomer, Arginine, Artemisia Vulgaris Oil, Xanthan Gum, Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Extract, Ethylhexylglycerin, Allantoin, Adenosine, Tocopherol, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil, Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Leaf Extract

22 of 23 explained
- Aqua (Water) solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride emollient
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is the light fraction of coconut oil, with the heavy parts removed. It is the workhorse emollient of modern formulas: it softens skin, dissolves oil-soluble actives and absorbs without the greasy weight of a whole plant oil.
- Bakuchiol active
- Bakuchiol is a compound from the babchi seed, used as a plant-derived alternative to retinol. It is oil soluble, stable in daylight and does not carry retinol's acclimatisation period, which is why sensitive-skin formulas choose it.
- Niacinamide active
- Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is used at roughly 2 to 5 percent for the look of uneven tone and visible pores, and it is water soluble, stable and comfortable beside almost every other active, which is why it turns up in so many lists.
- 1,2-Hexanediol humectant
- 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
- Coco-Caprylate/Caprate emollient
- Coco-Caprylate/Caprate is a coconut-derived ester used as a light, dry emollient in place of silicone. It spreads far and leaves a soft finish.
- Behenyl Alcohol fatty alcohol
- Behenyl Alcohol is a long-chain fatty alcohol used to thicken and stabilise a cream. It gives a richer, more velvety body than cetyl alcohol.
- Cetearyl Olivate emulsifier
- Cetearyl Olivate is the water-loving half of the olive-derived emulsifier pair. With sorbitan olivate it builds emulsions whose lipid profile is close to skin's own.
- Sorbitan Olivate emulsifier
- Sorbitan Olivate is an olive-derived emulsifier, the oil-loving half of the pair sold as Olivem. It holds oil into water and leaves a light, non-waxy feel.
- Carbomer thickener
- Carbomer is a synthetic polymer that only gels once a base neutralises it, which is why arginine or tromethamine sits nearby on the list. It gives the clear, non-stringy gel texture a xanthan formula cannot reach.
- Arginine amino acid
- Arginine is an amino acid that does two jobs here: it holds water in the outer layer of skin, and it neutralises acidic gelling agents, which is why it often stands in for a synthetic pH adjuster.
10 more explained
- Artemisia Vulgaris Oil fragrance component
- Mugwort essential oil. It scents a formula as well as conditioning it, and essential oils are the class most likely to bother reactive skin.
- Xanthan Gum thickener
- Xanthan Gum is a polysaccharide made by fermenting sugar. It thickens a watery formula into a gel and holds the whole thing in suspension so nothing separates. Too much of it and a serum turns stringy, which is why it appears in fractions of a percent.
- Citrus Aurantium Amara (Bitter Orange) Flower Extract plant extract
- Bitter orange blossom extract, the neroli plant. It is used as a conditioning extract and contributes a floral scent.
- Ethylhexylglycerin preservative booster
- Ethylhexylglycerin softens skin and boosts a preservative system, which is why it is nearly always sitting beside phenoxyethanol or 1,2-hexanediol. It also cuts down the odour bacteria produce, so it turns up in deodorising products.
- Allantoin active
- Allantoin is a comfrey-derived compound used to condition skin and soften the outer layer so it feels smoother. It is one of the standard additions to a formula built for easily irritated skin.
- Adenosine active
- Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated.
- Tocopherol antioxidant
- Tocopherol is vitamin E. It is an oil-soluble antioxidant that protects the oils in a formula from going rancid and works on skin as an emollient, and it is regularly paired with vitamin C because each keeps the other going for longer.
- Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil fragrance component
- Lavender Oil is an essential oil carrying linalool and linalyl acetate. It scents a formula, and linalool is one of the fragrance components EU labelling requires to be named separately.
- Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil fragrance
- May chang oil, a bright lemon-scented essential oil pressed from a small Asian tree. Its scent comes mostly from citral, the same aromatic that gives lemongrass its character.
- Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Leaf Extract plant extract
- Blackcurrant leaf extract, carrying flavonoids and tannins. It is used as a conditioning antioxidant extract.

How it works
The Bakuchiol Serum is a 35ml serum, used after toner and before moisturizer, morning and evening. The active it is built around is Bakuchiol, named fourth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Niacinamide, Allantoin and Adenosine, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Bakuchiol stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the serum format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the serum Benton sells in Korea, Bakuchiol and all.
How to use
- Use the Bakuchiol Serum after toner and before moisturizer, morning and evening.
- Pump as much as pinky nail, divide it to cheeks-nose-chin-forehead, and absorb it. Mix a drop of serum with thick cream and make it a light texture. Add Bakuchiol's Serum's nourishment to the moisture of the cream and use it softer and lighter.
- Toner first so the surface is damp, then this, then about a minute before your moisturizer goes over the top.
- Twice a day, every day. Do not stack it with a second serum of the same kind; two hydrating serums in one routine do the work of one.
Worth knowing
- New to this formula or to the brand: patch-test on the inner arm and wait a day before applying it to the face.
- Discontinue use and rinse the area with water if redness, itching or irritation develops.
