How it works

The Madeca Matcha Pore Cleansing Oil is a 200ml cleansing oil, used as the first of two evening cleanses, on dry skin and dry hands, before any water reaches the face. The plant extract it is built around is Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, named forty-fourth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid and Asiatic Acid, so the plant extract is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the cleansing oil format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the cleansing oil Centellian24 sells in Korea, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract and all.

Key benefits

  • Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, the plant extract this cleansing oil is built around
  • Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, Asiatic Acid and Niacinamide on the same list, actives
  • Madecassoside and Capryloyl Salicylic Acid further down the same list
  • Lactic Acid and Glycolic Acid further down the same list
  • Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract named forty-fourth on the manufacturer list printed on this page
  • Sourced for the Korean market, not a US-shelf reformulation of this cleansing oil

Key actives

Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extractplant extract

Camellia Sinensis is the tea plant. Green tea leaf extract carries catechins, among the most studied plant antioxidants, and is used for the look of redness and oily shine. The name on the box points at it, and it is named forty-fourth on this cleansing oil's own ingredient list.

Asiaticosideactive

Asiaticoside is one of the four active triterpenes isolated from centella and the most studied of them. Korean formulas name it separately when they want to show which fraction of the plant they standardised. It is named nineteenth on this cleansing oil's list, alongside Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract.

Madecassic Acidactive

Madecassic Acid is the fourth centella triterpene. A list that names all four is telling you the extract was standardised rather than simply pressed, which is the difference between a cica claim and a cica formula. The panel names it twentieth on this cleansing oil's list, beside Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract.

Asiatic Acidactive

Asiatic Acid is the third of centella's four triterpenes and the aglycone form, meaning it has no attached sugar. It is oil soluble, so it turns up in cica creams and balms more than in watery layers. The panel names it twenty-first on this cleansing oil's list, beside Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract.

Niacinamideactive

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is named twenty-ninth on this cleansing oil's list, alongside Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract.

How to use

  1. Use it in the evening as the first cleanse, on a dry face with dry hands.
  2. Two or three pumps worked over the face for about a minute so makeup and sunscreen let go.
  3. Add lukewarm water and keep massaging until it turns milky, then rinse it fully away.
  4. Once a day, in the evening. Follow it with a foam cleanser rather than stopping at the oil.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this cleansing oil on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract on the list.
  • This list names Fragrance and Parfum, so skip it if fragrance components are something you avoid.
  • Citric Acid and Glycolic Acid on this list makes this cleansing oil an exfoliating step, so do not stack it with another one on the same night.
