How it works

The White Truffle Return Oil Cream Cleanser is a 150g gel cleanser, used as your first step, morning and evening, on skin wet with lukewarm water. The vitamin it is built around is Cyanocobalamin, named forty-second on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Tocopherol, Ceramide NP and Phytosphingosine, so the vitamin is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Cyanocobalamin stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the gel cleanser format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the gel cleanser d'Alba sells in Korea, Cyanocobalamin and all.

Key benefits

  • Cyanocobalamin, the vitamin this gel cleanser is built around
  • Tocopherol on the same list, an antioxidant
  • Ceramide NP and Phytosphingosine on the same list, barrier lipids
  • Collagen Extract on the same list, a protein
  • Collagen and Tuber Magnatum Extract further down the same list
  • Phellodendron Amurense Bark Extract and Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract further down the same list

Key actives

Cyanocobalaminvitamin

Cyanocobalamin is vitamin B12, and it is a deep pink-red, which is why a formula carrying it often has a colour nobody added on purpose. It is used as a conditioning vitamin. On this gel cleanser's own ingredient list it is named forty-second.

Tocopherolantioxidant

Tocopherol is vitamin E. It is an oil-soluble antioxidant that protects the oils in a formula from going rancid and works on skin as an emollient, and it is regularly paired with vitamin C because each keeps the other going for longer. It is named fourteenth on this gel cleanser's list, alongside Cyanocobalamin.

Ceramide NPbarrier lipid

Ceramide NP is the most used cosmetic ceramide, the same class of lipid that makes up roughly half the mortar between cells in the outer layer of skin. Added to a cream it slots into that structure, which is why ceramide formulas feel less leaky rather than merely greasy. The panel names it sixteenth on this gel cleanser's list, beside Cyanocobalamin.

Phytosphingosinebarrier lipid

Phytosphingosine is the backbone every ceramide is built on, and skin uses it in its own lipid layer. In a formula it works with ceramides and cholesterol and also keeps the product stable against microbes. The panel names it forty-eighth on this gel cleanser's list, beside Cyanocobalamin.

Collagen Extractprotein

Collagen Extract is a collagen-bearing extract, usually from fish skin or scales. In a formula it works as a humectant and a smoothing film rather than as a source of new collagen. The panel names it fifteenth on this gel cleanser's list, beside Cyanocobalamin.

How to use

  1. Take two to three pumps of White Truffle Return Oil Cream Cleanser 150g into dry hands and massage over a dry face, working makeup and sunscreen loose.
  2. Add a small splash of water to emulsify the oil into a milky texture, then continue massaging for a few more seconds.
  3. Rinse fully, then follow with a water-based cleanser as the second half of the cleanse.
  4. Give White Truffle Return Oil Cream Cleanser 150g a moment to settle rather than layering the next product straight on top while it is still wet.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this gel cleanser on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Cyanocobalamin on the list.
  • This list names Fragrance, so skip it if fragrance components are something you avoid.
