How to use
- Use the Apple Mint Better Root Cooling Scaler after shampooing, on hair towelled to damp rather than dripping.
- Wet the scalp and hair thoroughly, then apply the scaler evenly to the scalp. Massage gently with your fingertips and rinse thoroughly with clean water. Use 2 to 3 times per week, either instead of shampoo or before shampooing.
- Shampoo first, this second. Leave it for the time the pack gives, then rinse.
- Once or twice a week. Do not work it into the roots; a treatment weighs down the one part of the hair that does not need it.
Does this product contain added fragrance?
No. Neither fragrance nor parfum appears on the ingredient list for Daleaf Apple Mint Better Root Cooling Scaler 250g. Those are the two names a cosmetic label uses for an added scent blend, so a formula carrying one would name it. The full list is printed in the Ingredients section of this page.
Does this product contain essential oils?
Yes. The ingredient list for Daleaf Apple Mint Better Root Cooling Scaler 250g includes Mentha Arvensis Leaf Oil. Aromatic plant oils are listed under their botanical name rather than as fragrance, so they are named separately from any fragrance or parfum entry.
Are any declarable fragrance allergens listed?
No. None of the 26 fragrance components that EU cosmetic labelling requires to be named individually appear on the ingredient list for Daleaf Apple Mint Better Root Cooling Scaler 250g. They are the components most often reported as contact allergens, which is why that rule names them one by one.
Does this product contain denatured or SD alcohol?
Yes. The ingredient list for Daleaf Apple Mint Better Root Cooling Scaler 250g includes Ethanol. That is the solvent form of alcohol, and it is a different ingredient from the fatty alcohols such as cetyl and cetearyl alcohol that many formulas use as emollients.
Not on the ingredient list below: fragrance or parfum, silicones, parabens, sulfate surfactants, mineral oil or petrolatum and added color.

33 of 43 explained
- Sodium Chloride thickener
- Sodium Chloride is salt. In a cleanser it thickens the liquid; in a mask or essence it balances the mineral content of the water phase. It has no active role.
- Water solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Coco-Betaine surfactant
- Coco-Betaine is a coconut-derived secondary surfactant used to build foam and make a cleanser milder.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate surfactant
- Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate is an amino-acid-derived cleansing surfactant. It lifts oil and makeup at a pH close to skin's own, which is why it replaced sulfates in gentle cleansers.
- Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate surfactant
- A sulfosuccinate surfactant: milder than a sulfate, with more foam than an amino-acid one. It is often used to soften a sulfate-based cleanser.
- PPG-3 Caprylyl Ether solvent
- PPG-3 Caprylyl Ether is a light solvent and emollient. It thins a formula, dissolves oil-loving ingredients, and leaves a dry, silky feel.
- Ethanol solvent
- Alcohol here means ethanol. It dissolves ingredients water cannot, evaporates fast so a formula sets quickly and does not feel heavy, and thins texture. In quantity it can leave dry or reactive skin feeling tight, which is why many Korean formulas avoid it and some deliberately use it for a fast, weightless finish.
- Menthol active
- Menthol is the cooling compound in mint. It acts on the nerve receptor that also answers to cold, which is why skin feels cool without any change in temperature.
- Sodium Benzoate preservative
- Sodium Benzoate is a mild preservative that works only in acidic formulas. It is usually paired with potassium sorbate, and the pair is the standard choice where a brand wants no phenoxyethanol.
- Mentha Suaveolens Leaf Extract plant extract
- Round-leaved mint leaf extract, one of the mild mints. It is used as a conditioning extract and carries a light mint scent.
- Isopropyl Myristate emollient
- Isopropyl Myristate is a light ester emollient that absorbs fast and helps other ingredients penetrate. It is known to be poorly suited to blemish-prone skin at higher levels.
21 more explained
- Trihydroxystearin thickener
- A castor-derived wax used to thicken oils and stop pigments settling. It builds structure in an anhydrous formula without making it hard.
- Polyquaternium-10 film former
- A cellulose polymer carrying a positive charge. It deposits from a rinse-off formula onto hair or skin and leaves a smooth, anti-static film.
- Dexpanthenol humectant
- Panthenol is pro-vitamin B5: skin converts it to pantothenic acid. It is a humectant that holds water and leaves skin feeling soft and less tight, and it is one of the ingredients formulators reach for when a formula also contains something harsh.
- Salicylic Acid exfoliant
- Salicylic Acid is a BHA, and the only common exfoliant that is oil soluble, so it can work inside a pore rather than only on the surface. It loosens the dead cells that block pores and is used for the look of congested, oily skin.
- Sucrose Stearate emulsifier
- Sucrose Stearate is a sugar-based emulsifier chosen for a light finish in formulas built for reactive skin.
- Mentha Arvensis Leaf Oil fragrance
- Cornmint oil, the main commercial source of menthol. It smells and feels close to peppermint.
- Niacinamide active
- Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is used at roughly 2 to 5 percent for the look of uneven tone and visible pores, and it is water soluble, stable and comfortable beside almost every other active, which is why it turns up in so many lists.
- Butylene Glycol humectant
- Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.
- Maltodextrin film former
- Maltodextrin is a starch-derived sugar chain used to carry powdered extracts and to form a light film. It also gives a soft, smoothing feel.
- 1,2-Hexanediol humectant
- 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
- Macrocystis Pyrifera Extract plant extract
- Giant kelp extract. It carries alginates, minerals and iodine and is used as a hydrating, mineral-rich marine ingredient.
- Laminaria Japonica Extract plant extract
- Laminaria Japonica is kombu kelp. Its extract carries alginates, minerals and iodine, and it is used as a hydrating, mineral-rich ingredient.
- Enteromorpha Compressa Extract plant extract
- Green laver, the parae of Korean cooking. Its extract is a mineral-rich, hydrating seaweed ingredient.
- Gelidium Cartilagineum Extract plant extract
- A red seaweed extract from the genus agar is made from. It thickens and hydrates and leaves a cushioned film.
- Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Extract plant extract
- Eucalyptus leaf extract, the water-based extract rather than the essential oil. It carries tannins and flavonoids with only a trace of the aroma.
- Melaleuca Alternifolia Leaf Extract plant extract
- Tea Tree Leaf Extract is the water-based extract rather than the essential oil, so it is far milder and much less aromatic. It is used in formulas for blemish-prone skin.
- Camellia Japonica Flower Extract plant extract
- Camellia Japonica Flower Extract comes from the flower of the Korean camellia. It is used as a conditioning, hydrating extract.
- Pentylene Glycol humectant
- Pentylene Glycol hydrates and, like the other longer-chain glycols, makes a formula less hospitable to microbes so the preservative system can be lighter. It also improves how evenly a product spreads.
- Vincetoxicum Atratum Extract plant extract
- Baekmi, a traditional Korean herbal root extract. It is used as a conditioning plant extract, usually beside other Korean herbal ingredients.
- Caprylyl Glycol preservative booster
- Caprylyl Glycol is a glycol that conditions skin and, more importantly, strengthens a preservative system so less of the traditional preservative is needed. It appears in most modern formulas built without parabens.
- Cyclodextrin solvent
- A ring-shaped sugar with a hollow centre. Formulas use it to hold an oil, a fragrance or an unstable active inside the ring, which keeps it stable and slows its release.
