How to use
- Use the Paradise Blooming Balm on clean lips, at any point in the day and again as the last thing before bed.
- Apply directly to dry areas and reapply as needed.
- It goes on last over any lip product, and on bare lips it needs nothing underneath it.
- As often as lips feel dry. Do not reapply over and over in place of drinking water; a balm holds moisture in, it does not add any.
Does this product contain added fragrance?
No. Neither fragrance nor parfum appears on the ingredient list for DEAR DAHLIA Paradise Blooming Balm 3.1g. Those are the two names a cosmetic label uses for an added scent blend, so a formula carrying one would name it. The full list is printed in the Ingredients section of this page.
Does this product contain essential oils?
Yes. The ingredient list for DEAR DAHLIA Paradise Blooming Balm 3.1g includes Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil and Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil. Aromatic plant oils are listed under their botanical name rather than as fragrance, so they are named separately from any fragrance or parfum entry.
Are any declarable fragrance allergens listed?
No. None of the 26 fragrance components that EU cosmetic labelling requires to be named individually appear on the ingredient list for DEAR DAHLIA Paradise Blooming Balm 3.1g. They are the components most often reported as contact allergens, which is why that rule names them one by one.
Does this product contain denatured or SD alcohol?
No. The ingredient list for DEAR DAHLIA Paradise Blooming Balm 3.1g names no denatured alcohol, SD alcohol or ethanol. Fatty alcohols such as cetyl and cetearyl alcohol are a different class of ingredient, used as emollients and thickeners, and are not counted here.
Not on the ingredient list below: fragrance or parfum, denatured or SD alcohol, silicones, parabens, sulfate surfactants and added color.

28 of 30 explained
- Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter emollient
- Shea Butter is the fat pressed from the shea nut, rich in oleic and stearic acids and unsaponifiable plant sterols. It is a heavy emollient and partial occlusive, which is why it sits in balms and night creams rather than in essences.
- Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate emulsifier
- Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate is a water-in-oil emulsifier used in balms and rich creams, and a good pigment disperser.
- Octyldodecanol emollient
- Octyldodecanol is a branched fatty alcohol used as an emollient and as a solvent for pigments and mineral powders. It thickens slightly and leaves a soft finish.
- Diisostearyl Malate emollient
- Diisostearyl Malate is a thick, glossy ester used to hold pigment in suspension and give a cushioned shine. It is the standard emollient in lip products.
- Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil emollient
- Sunflower Seed Oil is high in linoleic acid, the fatty acid dry and blemish-prone skin is often short of. It is a light, non-fragrant emollient and one of the better tolerated plant oils.
- Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil emollient
- Castor Oil is thick, glossy and unusually good at dissolving pigment, which is why it dominates lip and cleansing-balm formulas. It is a heavy emollient.
- Ceresin occlusive
- Ceresin is a hard mineral wax refined from ozokerite. It stiffens balms and sticks and slows water leaving skin.
- Hydrogenated Polyisobutene emollient
- Hydrogenated Polyisobutene is a stabilised synthetic hydrocarbon used in place of mineral oil. It is an emollient that leaves a smooth, cushioned film.
- Microcrystalline Wax occlusive
- Microcrystalline Wax is a fine-crystalled petroleum wax. It gives balms and sticks body and flexibility and holds oil from separating out.
- Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax occlusive
- Candelilla wax, from a desert shrub, and the usual plant substitute for beeswax. It gives sticks and balms a firm, slightly brittle set.
- Ozokerite occlusive
- Ozokerite is a mineral wax used to set sticks and balms. It binds oils into a solid that holds its shape in heat instead of sweating or blooming on the surface.
- Jojoba Esters emollient
- Jojoba Esters are jojoba wax rebuilt into a softer, meltable form. They condition skin and give body to balms without the heaviness of a butter.
16 more explained
- Polyethylene thickener
- Polyethylene in a formula is a wax-like polymer used to thicken oils and set sticks. It is the same polymer family as plastic film, in a soft grade.
- Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil emollient
- Sweet almond oil, one of the oldest cosmetic oils. It is high in oleic acid, which makes it richer and slower to absorb than the linoleic oils.
- Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil emollient
- Olive Fruit Oil is high in oleic acid and plant sterols. It is a rich emollient that suits dry skin and is heavy enough that blemish-prone skin often does not get on with it.
- Tribehenin emollient
- Glycerin joined to three behenic acid chains, giving a soft wax-like ester. It thickens an oil phase and leaves a cushioned rather than slippery feel.
- Trihydroxystearin thickener
- A castor-derived wax used to thicken oils and stop pigments settling. It builds structure in an anhydrous formula without making it hard.
- Eclipta Prostrata Extract plant extract
- Eclipta Prostrata is false daisy, long used in Ayurvedic and East Asian practice. Its extract is used as a conditioning plant extract, most often in scalp and hair formulas.
- Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil fragrance component
- Lavender Oil is an essential oil carrying linalool and linalyl acetate. It scents a formula, and linalool is one of the fragrance components EU labelling requires to be named separately.
- Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil fragrance component
- Sweet Orange Peel Oil is a citrus essential oil carrying limonene. It scents a formula, and limonene is one of the components EU labelling names separately.
- Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract plant extract
- Melia Azadirachta is neem. Its leaf and flower extracts are long-standing Ayurvedic ingredients, and Korean formulas use them in products aimed at the look of congested, blemish-prone skin.
- Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil emollient
- Sea buckthorn oil, deep orange from its carotenoid content, which is often why a formula carrying it has a colour nobody added. It is high in the unusual fatty acid palmitoleic acid.
- Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil emollient
- Argan Oil is pressed from the argan kernel and is rich in oleic and linoleic acids plus vitamin E. It is a medium-weight emollient that absorbs reasonably fast.
- Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter emollient
- Cocoa butter, pressed from the cacao bean. It is firm at room temperature, high in stearic and oleic acid, and used as a rich occlusive emollient.
- Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil emollient
- Moringa Seed Oil is high in oleic acid and behenic acid and very stable. It is a conditioning emollient with a light, non-sticky finish.
- Sorbitan Sesquioleate emulsifier
- Sorbitan Sesquioleate is a water-in-oil emulsifier and pigment disperser. Cleansing oils use it so water can be worked into the oil at the rinse.
- Dehydroacetic Acid preservative
- A preservative that works best in acidic formulas and is almost always paired with benzyl alcohol. It is one of the standard systems in products built without parabens.
- Tocopherol antioxidant
- Tocopherol is vitamin E. It is an oil-soluble antioxidant that protects the oils in a formula from going rancid and works on skin as an emollient, and it is regularly paired with vitamin C because each keeps the other going for longer.
