How to use
- Use the Folligen Thickening Shampoo in place of your usual shampoo, on hair wet all the way through.
- Work into a rich lather and gently massage into wet hair and scalp. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water.
- Rinse thoroughly, then follow with your usual conditioner or treatment through the mid-lengths and ends.
- As often as you already wash. Do not pile it straight onto dry hair; a shampoo needs water in the hair to spread at all.
Does this product contain added fragrance?
Yes. The ingredient list for Dr.FORHAIR Folligen Thickening Shampoo 500ml includes Fragrance/Parfum. That is the label name for an added scent blend, whose individual components are not itemised beyond any allergens the label declares separately. The full list is printed in the Ingredients section of this page.
Does this product contain essential oils?
Yes. The ingredient list for Dr.FORHAIR Folligen Thickening Shampoo 500ml includes Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil. Aromatic plant oils are listed under their botanical name rather than as fragrance, so they are named separately from any fragrance or parfum entry.
Are any declarable fragrance allergens listed?
Yes. Linalool, Hexyl Cinnamal, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Limonene and Citronellol appear on the ingredient list for Dr.FORHAIR Folligen Thickening Shampoo 500ml. These belong to the 26 fragrance components that EU cosmetic labelling requires to be named individually rather than folded into a fragrance entry.
Does this product contain denatured or SD alcohol?
No. The ingredient list for Dr.FORHAIR Folligen Thickening Shampoo 500ml names no denatured alcohol, SD alcohol or ethanol. Fatty alcohols such as cetyl and cetearyl alcohol are a different class of ingredient, used as emollients and thickeners, and are not counted here.
Not on the ingredient list below: denatured or SD alcohol, silicones, parabens, sulfate surfactants and mineral oil or petrolatum.

45 of 51 explained
- Water/Aqua/Eau solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate surfactant
- A strong anionic surfactant that foams heavily. It is a sulfate alternative in name but not in strength, and it is more common in shampoos than in facial cleansers.
- Cocamidopropyl Betaine surfactant
- Cocamidopropyl Betaine is a coconut-derived secondary surfactant. Its job is to boost foam and soften the harshness of the main cleanser rather than to clean on its own.
- Sodium Chloride thickener
- Sodium Chloride is salt. In a cleanser it thickens the liquid; in a mask or essence it balances the mineral content of the water phase. It has no active role.
- Sodium Benzoate preservative
- Sodium Benzoate is a mild preservative that works only in acidic formulas. It is usually paired with potassium sorbate, and the pair is the standard choice where a brand wants no phenoxyethanol.
- PPG-3 Caprylyl Ether solvent
- PPG-3 Caprylyl Ether is a light solvent and emollient. It thins a formula, dissolves oil-loving ingredients, and leaves a dry, silky feel.
- Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate surfactant
- Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate is a mild coconut-derived surfactant known for a rich, creamy lather that rinses without tightness.
- Sodium Cocoyl Alaninate surfactant
- An amino-acid surfactant made from coconut fatty acids and alanine. It foams less aggressively than a sulfate and rinses without the tight feeling.
- Menthol active
- Menthol is the cooling compound in mint. It acts on the nerve receptor that also answers to cold, which is why skin feels cool without any change in temperature.
- Cocamide Methyl MEA surfactant
- A coconut derived amide used as a foam booster and thickener in cleansers. It builds a denser lather and adds body to a surfactant blend.
- Caprylyl Glycol preservative booster
- Caprylyl Glycol is a glycol that conditions skin and, more importantly, strengthens a preservative system so less of the traditional preservative is needed. It appears in most modern formulas built without parabens.
- Polyquaternium-10 film former
- A cellulose polymer carrying a positive charge. It deposits from a rinse-off formula onto hair or skin and leaves a smooth, anti-static film.
33 more explained
- Panthenol humectant
- Panthenol is pro-vitamin B5: skin converts it to pantothenic acid. It is a humectant that holds water and leaves skin feeling soft and less tight, and it is one of the ingredients formulators reach for when a formula also contains something harsh.
- Menthyl Lactate active
- Menthyl Lactate is a menthol derivative that gives a cooling sensation without menthol's sharpness or scent. It is a sensory ingredient rather than an active.
- Salicylic Acid exfoliant
- Salicylic Acid is a BHA, and the only common exfoliant that is oil soluble, so it can work inside a pore rather than only on the surface. It loosens the dead cells that block pores and is used for the look of congested, oily skin.
- Citric Acid pH adjuster
- Citric Acid is used in tiny amounts to bring a formula to the pH its actives need, not as an exfoliant at that level. It is an AHA, so at much higher concentrations it can also exfoliate.
- Butylene Glycol humectant
- Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.
- Niacinamide active
- Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is used at roughly 2 to 5 percent for the look of uneven tone and visible pores, and it is water soluble, stable and comfortable beside almost every other active, which is why it turns up in so many lists.
- Disodium EDTA chelator
- EDTA is a chelator: it locks up trace metal ions from water and packaging that would otherwise turn a formula cloudy, off-colour or rancid. It does nothing to skin and appears at a fraction of a percent.
- Trihydroxystearin thickener
- A castor-derived wax used to thicken oils and stop pigments settling. It builds structure in an anhydrous formula without making it hard.
- Methylpropanediol humectant
- Methylpropanediol is a small glycol used to hydrate and to help water-soluble actives penetrate the outer layer of skin more evenly. It leaves almost no tack, which suits watery textures.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Phytic Acid chelator
- Phytic Acid comes from rice bran and other seed husks. It binds metal ions, which keeps a formula stable, and it is also used as a very mild exfoliant.
- Piroctone Olamine preservative
- Piroctone Olamine is an antifungal preservative. It is used mainly in scalp and hair products rather than in facial skincare.
- Dipropylene Glycol humectant
- Dipropylene Glycol is a glycol used as a solvent and a light humectant. Its main job is keeping the rest of the formula dissolved and the texture fluid rather than adding hydration of its own.
- Lactobacillus Ferment ferment
- Lactobacillus Ferment is the liquid left after lactobacillus bacteria have fermented a plant or milk substrate. It carries the small molecules the fermentation produced, including lactic acid and amino acids, and is used for the look of dull, uneven skin.
- Sodium Hydroxide pH adjuster
- Sodium Hydroxide is a strong base used in traces to bring an acidic formula up to skin-friendly pH. None of it remains as itself once the formula is neutralised.
- Prunus Mume Fruit Extract plant extract
- Korean plum extract, from the fruit used to make maesil syrup. It is acidic and carries organic acids and polyphenols.
- Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract plant extract
- Honeysuckle flower extract, the geumeunhwa of Korean herbal practice. It resists microbes as well as conditioning, so it often doubles as part of a preservative system.
- Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract plant extract
- Scutellaria Baicalensis is Chinese skullcap. Its root extract carries baicalin, a well studied plant antioxidant, and it is used for the look of redness.
- 1,2-Hexanediol humectant
- 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
- Arginine amino acid
- Arginine is an amino acid that does two jobs here: it holds water in the outer layer of skin, and it neutralises acidic gelling agents, which is why it often stands in for a synthetic pH adjuster.
- Biotin vitamin
- Biotin is vitamin B7. In skincare it is a conditioning vitamin, most often in hair and scalp formulas.
- Ceramide NP barrier lipid
- Ceramide NP is the most used cosmetic ceramide, the same class of lipid that makes up roughly half the mortar between cells in the outer layer of skin. Added to a cream it slots into that structure, which is why ceramide formulas feel less leaky rather than merely greasy.
- Hydrolyzed Keratin protein
- Hydrolyzed Keratin is keratin, the protein hair and nails are built from, cut into fragments small enough to dissolve. In a formula it is a humectant and a smoothing film former.
- Caffeine active
- Caffeine constricts small blood vessels near the surface, which is why eye products use it for the look of puffiness and shadow. It is water soluble and works only while it is on the skin.
- Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil fragrance component
- Rosemary Leaf Oil is an essential oil carrying camphor and cineole. It scents a formula and is a stronger aromatic than most.
- Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3 peptide
- Acetyl Tetrapeptide-3 is a four-amino-acid peptide used for the look of density and firmness. It appears in scalp formulas as often as in facial ones.
- Copper Tripeptide-1 peptide
- Copper Tripeptide-1 is three amino acids bound to a copper ion, and the classic firming peptide in cosmetic chemistry. It is blue in solution, which is often why a serum carrying it is tinted, and it is used for the look of firmness and fine lines.
- Fragrance/Parfum fragrance
- Fragrance, or Parfum, is a single declaration standing for a whole scent blend, which can be dozens of materials. Regulators allow it as a trade secret, so a list showing only this word does not say what the scent is made of. It is the most common trigger named by people with reactive skin.
- Linalool fragrance component
- Linalool is a floral aromatic found in lavender, bergamot and coriander. It is one of the 26 fragrance components EU labelling requires to be declared by name.
- Hexyl Cinnamal fragrance component
- Hexyl Cinnamal is a jasmine-like aromatic. It is one of the 26 fragrance components EU labelling requires to be named individually.
- Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone fragrance component
- A soft violet and woody aromatic. It is one of the 26 fragrance components EU labelling requires to be named.
- Limonene fragrance component
- Limonene is the citrus-peel aromatic. It appears here because EU labelling requires 26 fragrance components to be named individually rather than hidden inside "fragrance", and it is one of them.
- Citronellol fragrance component
- Citronellol is a rose-geranium aromatic and one of the 26 fragrance components EU labelling names individually.
