How it works

The Vita Bomb Serum (Calming & Relief) is a 30ml serum, used after toner and before moisturizer, morning and evening. The active it is built around is Niacinamide, named third on its own ingredient list. The same list carries 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Ascorbic Acid and Tocopherol, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Niacinamide stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the serum format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the serum Frankly sells in Korea, Niacinamide and all.

Key benefits

  • Niacinamide, the active this serum is built around
  • 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, Ascorbic Acid, Tocopherol and Hydroxycinnamic Acid on the same list, antioxidants
  • Rutin and Biosaccharide Gum-1 further down the same list
  • Hippophae Rhamnoides Extract and Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract further down the same list
  • Niacinamide named third on the manufacturer list printed on this page
  • The Korean-market release of this serum, confirmed against its Korean barcode

Key actives

Niacinamideactive

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. On this serum's own ingredient list it is named third.

3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acidantioxidant

3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid is a stable vitamin C derivative that skin converts to ascorbic acid. It survives in a formula far better than pure vitamin C and works at a gentler pH, so it suits skin that finds the pure acid uncomfortable. The panel names it ninth on this serum's list, beside Niacinamide.

Ascorbic Acidantioxidant

Ascorbic Acid is pure vitamin C, the most researched form and also the least stable: it needs a low pH and airtight packaging to stay active. It is an antioxidant used for the look of dullness and uneven tone. The panel names it tenth on this serum's list, beside Niacinamide.

Tocopherolantioxidant

Tocopherol is vitamin E. It is an oil-soluble antioxidant that protects the oils in a formula from going rancid and works on skin as an emollient, and it is regularly paired with vitamin C because each keeps the other going for longer. It is named eleventh on this serum's list, alongside Niacinamide.

Hydroxycinnamic Acidantioxidant

Hydroxycinnamic Acid is the parent compound of the plant acid family ferulic and caffeic acid belong to. It is used as a plant antioxidant. It is named thirty-eighth on this serum's list, alongside Niacinamide.

How to use

  1. Use it after cleansing and toning, while the surface is still slightly damp.
  2. Press three or four drops over the face and neck rather than rubbing them in.
  3. Wait until it feels dry to the touch, then apply your moisturiser over the top.
  4. Do not apply it over a cream or an oil, since a light serum cannot get through a finished occlusive layer.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this serum on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Niacinamide on the list.
  • Introduce this serum on its own for the first week, so anything your skin does is traceable to the Niacinamide rather than to three changes at once.
