How it works

The Vitamin Fruit Serum is a 30ml serum, used after toner and before moisturizer, morning and evening. The active it is built around is Niacinamide, named fifth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Adenosine, Tocopheryl Acetate and Ascorbic Acid, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Niacinamide stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the serum format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the serum I'm From sells in Korea, Niacinamide and all.

Key benefits

  • Niacinamide, the active this serum is built around
  • Adenosine on the same list, an active
  • Tocopheryl Acetate and Ascorbic Acid on the same list, antioxidants
  • Beta-Glucan on the same list, a polysaccharide
  • Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract and Portulaca Oleracea Extract further down the same list
  • Malpighia Glabra (Acerola) Fruit Extract and Laminaria Japonica Extract further down the same list

Key actives

Niacinamideactive

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. On this serum's own ingredient list it is named fifth.

Adenosineactive

Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated. The panel names it twenty-first on this serum's list, beside Niacinamide.

Tocopheryl Acetateantioxidant

Tocopheryl Acetate is a stable vitamin E ester that skin converts to tocopherol. It is used as an antioxidant and a light emollient and holds up better than plain vitamin E in a formula. The panel names it twentieth on this serum's list, beside Niacinamide.

Ascorbic Acidantioxidant

Ascorbic Acid is pure vitamin C, the most researched form and also the least stable: it needs a low pH and airtight packaging to stay active. It is an antioxidant used for the look of dullness and uneven tone. The panel names it twenty-ninth on this serum's list, beside Niacinamide.

Beta-Glucanpolysaccharide

Beta-Glucan is a polysaccharide from oats or yeast. It holds a large amount of water, forms a soothing film, and is one of the ingredients formulators reach for in products aimed at reactive skin. It is named twenty-fifth on this serum's list, alongside Niacinamide.

How to use

  1. Apply after toner on damp skin so a few drops cover the whole face evenly.
  2. Press it in with flat fingertips and give it a minute to settle before the next layer.
  3. Follow with moisturiser, then sunscreen, since morning brightening work needs daylight protection over it.
  4. Do not stack it with a strong exfoliating acid in the same routine while you are still introducing it.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this serum on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Niacinamide on the list.
  • Introduce this serum on its own for the first week, so anything your skin does is traceable to the Niacinamide rather than to three changes at once.

  • Niacinamide helps reduce the appearance of pores in a few ways. By strengthening the skin barrier and improving elasticity, pores appear less noticeable and more even.
