Cyclopentasiloxane silicone

Cyclopentasiloxane is a volatile silicone: it spreads a formula thin and smooth then evaporates, leaving no residue. It is the silicone behind a dry, powdery primer finish.

Dimethicone silicone

Dimethicone is the most used cosmetic silicone. It forms a breathable film that smooths the surface, slows water leaving skin, and gives the slip that makes a primer or cream feel silky. It is inert and does not penetrate.

C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate emollient

C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate is a light ester emollient and solvent. It gives a silky finish, dissolves pigments and UV filters, and mildly discourages microbial growth.

Dimethiconol silicone

Dimethiconol is a high-molecular-weight silicone that leaves a longer-lasting smooth film than dimethicone. It is used for lasting slip and shine.

Cyclohexasiloxane silicone

Cyclohexasiloxane is a volatile silicone used for a light, fast-spreading feel that leaves nothing behind.

Persea Gratissima (avocado) Oil emollient

Avocado oil, rich in oleic acid and plant sterols. It is one of the heavier plant oils, which suits dry skin and cleansing balms.

Amodimethicone silicone

A silicone carrying a positive charge, so it is drawn to damaged hair and stays after rinsing. It is a conditioning silicone rather than a slip agent.

Camellia Japonica Seed Oil emollient

Camellia Seed Oil is the traditional Korean and Japanese hair and skin oil, high in oleic acid. It is a light emollient that absorbs quickly for its richness.

Water solvent

Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.

Lactobacillus/Rice Ferment ferment

Rice fermented with lactobacillus, the same bacteria behind kimchi and makgeolli. Fermentation breaks the rice starch into smaller sugars and amino acids that hold water.

Tocopheryl Acetate antioxidant

Tocopheryl Acetate is a stable vitamin E ester that skin converts to tocopherol. It is used as an antioxidant and a light emollient and holds up better than plain vitamin E in a formula.

Butylene Glycol humectant

Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.
