How to use
- Use the Argan Essential Curling Essence after shampooing, on hair towelled to damp rather than dripping.
- Towel-dry the hair and apply a moderate amount to slightly damp hair, focusing from the mid-lengths to the ends. Shape and set the curls as desired.
- Shampoo first, this second. Leave it for the time the pack gives, then rinse.
- Once or twice a week. Do not work it into the roots; a treatment weighs down the one part of the hair that does not need it.
Does this product contain added fragrance?
Yes. The ingredient list for Nature Republic Argan Essential Curling Essence 100ml includes Fragrance. That is the label name for an added scent blend, whose individual components are not itemised beyond any allergens the label declares separately. The full list is printed in the Ingredients section of this page.
Are any declarable fragrance allergens listed?
No. None of the 26 fragrance components that EU cosmetic labelling requires to be named individually appear on the ingredient list for Nature Republic Argan Essential Curling Essence 100ml. They are the components most often reported as contact allergens, which is why that rule names them one by one.
Does this product contain denatured or SD alcohol?
No. The ingredient list for Nature Republic Argan Essential Curling Essence 100ml names no denatured alcohol, SD alcohol or ethanol. Fatty alcohols such as cetyl and cetearyl alcohol are a different class of ingredient, used as emollients and thickeners, and are not counted here.
Not on the ingredient list below: denatured or SD alcohol, essential oils, parabens, sulfate surfactants, mineral oil or petrolatum and added color.

31 of 39 explained
- Water solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Cyclopentasiloxane silicone
- Cyclopentasiloxane is a volatile silicone: it spreads a formula thin and smooth then evaporates, leaving no residue. It is the silicone behind a dry, powdery primer finish.
- Dimethicone silicone
- Dimethicone is the most used cosmetic silicone. It forms a breathable film that smooths the surface, slows water leaving skin, and gives the slip that makes a primer or cream feel silky. It is inert and does not penetrate.
- Propylene Glycol humectant
- Propylene Glycol is a small glycol used as a humectant and solvent. It hydrates and helps actives dissolve; newer formulas often swap it for propanediol, which does the same job with a lighter feel.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Cyclohexasiloxane silicone
- Cyclohexasiloxane is a volatile silicone used for a light, fast-spreading feel that leaves nothing behind.
- Polyacrylamide film former
- A polymer used to thicken and to hold an emulsion together. It leaves a light film that helps a formula stay put.
- C13-14 Isoparaffin emollient
- A light branched hydrocarbon, usually part of the thickener system in a lotion. It gives a smooth, quick-spreading feel.
- Laureth-7 emulsifier
- Laureth-7 is a mild emulsifier and wetting agent. It helps oils and water mix and improves how evenly a formula spreads.
- Amodimethicone silicone
- A silicone carrying a positive charge, so it is drawn to damaged hair and stays after rinsing. It is a conditioning silicone rather than a slip agent.
- Phenoxyethanol preservative
- Phenoxyethanol is the most widely used cosmetic preservative outside the paraben family. It keeps a water-containing formula from growing bacteria and mould, and is capped at one percent in most markets, so it always sits low on a list.
- Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil emollient
- Argan Oil is pressed from the argan kernel and is rich in oleic and linoleic acids plus vitamin E. It is a medium-weight emollient that absorbs reasonably fast.
19 more explained
- Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil emollient
- Jojoba Oil is a liquid wax rather than a true oil, and its structure is close to human sebum, which is why it absorbs so readily. It is an emollient that leaves a soft, non-greasy finish.
- Moringa Oleifera Seed Extract plant extract
- Moringa seed extract. The seed is best known for its oil and for the cationic peptides used to clarify water, and in a formula the extract is a conditioning botanical.
- Hydrolyzed Keratin protein
- Hydrolyzed Keratin is keratin, the protein hair and nails are built from, cut into fragments small enough to dissolve. In a formula it is a humectant and a smoothing film former.
- Hydrolyzed Soy Protein protein
- Hydrolyzed Soy Protein is soy protein cut into water-soluble fragments. It conditions the surface and holds water, and it is one of the most used plant proteins in cosmetics.
- Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein protein
- Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein is wheat protein broken into fragments small enough to dissolve in water. It holds water at the surface and leaves a smooth film, which is why it is as common in hair products as in skincare.
- Hydrolyzed Corn Protein protein
- Hydrolyzed Corn Protein is corn protein cut into small soluble pieces. On a label it usually sits with two or three other plant proteins, because each brings a different amino acid balance.
- Hydrolyzed Collagen protein
- Hydrolyzed Collagen is collagen broken into fragments small enough to dissolve in water. It cannot become collagen in skin; what it does is hold water at the surface and leave a smooth, conditioned film.
- Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract plant extract
- Lavender extract, the water-soluble fraction rather than the essential oil. It is used as a conditioning extract and carries a light lavender scent.
- Monarda Didyma Leaf Extract plant extract
- Bee balm leaf extract, a mint family plant. The leaf carries aromatic terpenes and flavonoids and is used as a conditioning botanical with a faint scent.
- Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Leaf Extract plant extract
- Peppermint leaf extract, the water-based extract rather than the essential oil, so it carries far less menthol. It is used as a refreshing herbal extract.
- Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract plant extract
- Chamomile Flower Extract is one of the oldest ingredients in skincare, carrying bisabolol and chamazulene. It is used for the look of redness in formulas for reactive skin.
- Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract plant extract
- Rosemary Leaf Extract carries rosmarinic and carnosic acids, both effective antioxidants. It is often there to keep the oils in a formula from going rancid.
- Fragrance fragrance
- Fragrance, or Parfum, is a single declaration standing for a whole scent blend, which can be dozens of materials. Regulators allow it as a trade secret, so a list showing only this word does not say what the scent is made of. It is the most common trigger named by people with reactive skin.
- Tromethamine pH adjuster
- Tromethamine neutralises acidic thickeners such as carbomer so they gel, and holds a formula near skin-friendly pH. It is used at a fraction of a percent.
- Sorbitan Isostearate emulsifier
- Sorbitan Isostearate is a mild emulsifier that holds water into oil, the direction a cleansing balm or an oil-based cream needs.
- 1,2-Hexanediol humectant
- 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
- Caprylyl Glycol preservative booster
- Caprylyl Glycol is a glycol that conditions skin and, more importantly, strengthens a preservative system so less of the traditional preservative is needed. It appears in most modern formulas built without parabens.
- Disodium EDTA chelator
- EDTA is a chelator: it locks up trace metal ions from water and packaging that would otherwise turn a formula cloudy, off-colour or rancid. It does nothing to skin and appears at a fraction of a percent.
- PVP film former
- PVP is polyvinylpyrrolidone, a water-soluble polymer that dries into a clear flexible film. It holds pigment or hair in place and washes off with water.
