Silica absorbent

Silica is finely milled mineral, essentially very pure sand. It absorbs oil, stops powders clumping and soft-focuses the look of pores and fine lines.

Synthetic Fluorphlogopite colorant

Synthetic mica, grown rather than mined, which makes it purer and more transparent than the natural mineral. It scatters light and carries pearlescent pigments.

Boron Nitride absorbent

A plate-like mineral powder with a notably slippery feel. It softens how light falls on skin and makes a powder or stick glide rather than drag.

Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate absorbent

Modified starch treated with aluminium so it resists water. It absorbs oil and gives a silky, matte finish.

Squalane emollient

Squalane is the stable, saturated version of squalene, a lipid human skin already makes. It is a light emollient that absorbs quickly, does not oxidise, and is one of the few oils widely considered safe for blemish-prone skin. Most cosmetic squalane is now from sugarcane or olive rather than shark.

Triethoxycaprylylsilane silicone

Triethoxycaprylylsilane is a coating applied to mineral powders so they disperse evenly and resist water rather than clumping.

Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil emollient

Olive Fruit Oil is high in oleic acid and plant sterols. It is a rich emollient that suits dry skin and is heavy enough that blemish-prone skin often does not get on with it.

1,2-Hexanediol humectant

1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.

Glyceryl Caprylate emulsifier

Glyceryl Caprylate is a mild emulsifier that also makes a formula less hospitable to microbes, so it is often part of a preservative-free system.

Artemisia Vulgaris Oil fragrance component

Mugwort essential oil. It scents a formula as well as conditioning it, and essential oils are the class most likely to bother reactive skin.

Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil fragrance component

Rosemary Leaf Oil is an essential oil carrying camphor and cineole. It scents a formula and is a stronger aromatic than most.

Juniperus Communis Fruit Oil fragrance component

Juniper berry oil, an essential oil with a resinous, gin-like scent. It is used to perfume a formula.
