*Camellia Japonica Seed Oil emollient

Camellia Seed Oil is the traditional Korean and Japanese hair and skin oil, high in oleic acid. It is a light emollient that absorbs quickly for its richness.

*Corylus Avellana (Hazelnut) Seed Oil emollient

Hazelnut oil, a dry-feeling oil high in oleic acid. It absorbs quickly and is used where a formula must not read as greasy.

*Camellia Sinensis Seed Oil emollient

Oil pressed from tea seeds. It is high in oleic acid, carries some of the antioxidants of the tea plant, and is lighter in feel than most oleic oils.

*Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil emollient

Olive Fruit Oil is high in oleic acid and plant sterols. It is a rich emollient that suits dry skin and is heavy enough that blemish-prone skin often does not get on with it.

**Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride emollient

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is the light fraction of coconut oil, with the heavy parts removed. It is the workhorse emollient of modern formulas: it softens skin, dissolves oil-soluble actives and absorbs without the greasy weight of a whole plant oil.

Alkanna Tinctoria Root Extract plant extract

Alkanet root extract. The root is deep red-purple, so it colours a formula naturally, and it is used as a conditioning extract.

Tocopherol antioxidant

Tocopherol is vitamin E. It is an oil-soluble antioxidant that protects the oils in a formula from going rancid and works on skin as an emollient, and it is regularly paired with vitamin C because each keeps the other going for longer.

*Calendula Officinalis Flower Oil emollient

Marigold flowers steeped in a carrier oil, which is what a flower oil of this kind usually is. It carries the flower's oil-soluble carotenoids.

Lithospermum Erythrorhizon Root Extract plant extract

Purple gromwell root, long used in Korean and Chinese herbal practice. The root is deep red-purple, so it colours a formula, and it is used for the look of reactive skin.

Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil emollient

Evening primrose oil, the main plant source of gamma-linolenic acid. It absorbs fast and oxidises fast, so formulas pair it with an antioxidant.

*Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil emollient

Jojoba Oil is a liquid wax rather than a true oil, and its structure is close to human sebum, which is why it absorbs so readily. It is an emollient that leaves a soft, non-greasy finish.

*Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil emollient

Sunflower Seed Oil is high in linoleic acid, the fatty acid dry and blemish-prone skin is often short of. It is a light, non-fragrant emollient and one of the better tolerated plant oils.
