*Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract plant extract

Oat Kernel Extract carries beta-glucan and avenanthramides, and it is one of the most reliably tolerated ingredients in skincare. It is used for the look of reddened, itchy-feeling skin.

*Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil emollient

Sweet almond oil, one of the oldest cosmetic oils. It is high in oleic acid, which makes it richer and slower to absorb than the linoleic oils.

*Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax occlusive

Carnauba wax comes from a Brazilian palm leaf and is the hardest wax in common cosmetic use. A small amount raises the melting point of a stick sharply.

*Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil emollient

Grape Seed Oil is a light, linoleic-acid-rich oil with a fast, dry absorption. It is one of the plant oils used where an oil is wanted without a heavy finish.

**Stearic acid fatty acid

Stearic Acid is a saturated fatty acid from plant fats, and one of the three lipid classes skin's own barrier is built from. In a formula it thickens, stabilises the emulsion and can be turned into a soap-style cleanser by adding a base.

**Cetearyl Alcohol fatty alcohol

Cetearyl Alcohol is a waxy solid, not the drying kind of alcohol. It is a blend of cetyl and stearyl alcohols used to thicken a cream and keep oil and water from separating, and it softens skin as it does so.

**Cetyl Alcohol fatty alcohol

Cetyl Alcohol is a waxy fatty alcohol from coconut or palm, unrelated to drying ethanol. It thickens creams, stabilises the emulsion and leaves skin feeling softer.

*Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Kernel Oil emollient

Apricot kernel oil, a light oil high in oleic acid. It absorbs quickly and is used where a formula needs softening without heaviness.

*Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter emollient

Shea Butter is the fat pressed from the shea nut, rich in oleic and stearic acids and unsaponifiable plant sterols. It is a heavy emollient and partial occlusive, which is why it sits in balms and night creams rather than in essences.

Magnesium Sulfate mineral

Magnesium Sulfate is Epsom salt, used as a mineral salt in the water phase. Despite the name it is not a cleansing sulfate and does not foam.

Chamaecyparis Obtusa Leaf Extract plant extract

Chamaecyparis Obtusa is hinoki cypress. Its leaf extract carries aromatic plant compounds and is used in Korean formulas aimed at oily, congested skin.

**Cetearyl Olivate emulsifier

Cetearyl Olivate is the water-loving half of the olive-derived emulsifier pair. With sorbitan olivate it builds emulsions whose lipid profile is close to skin's own.
