How it works
The Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil (Mild) is a 200ml cleansing oil, used as the first of two evening cleanses, on dry skin and dry hands, before any water reaches the face. The plant extract it is built around is Houttuynia Cordata Extract, named eighteenth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Tocopherol, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract and Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, so the plant extract is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Houttuynia Cordata Extract stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the cleansing oil format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the cleansing oil Anua sells in Korea, Houttuynia Cordata Extract and all.
Key benefits
- Houttuynia Cordata Extract, the plant extract this cleansing oil is built around
- Tocopherol on the same list, an antioxidant
- Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract and Corallina Officinalis Extract on the same list, plant extracts
- Melia Azadirachta Bark Extract and Ocimum Sanctum Leaf Extract further down the same list
- Butyl Avocadate and Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil further down the same list
- Houttuynia Cordata Extract named eighteenth on the manufacturer list printed on this page
Key actives
Houttuynia Cordata Extractplant extract
Houttuynia Cordata is heartleaf, and it is one of the two or three anchor plants of Korean calming skincare. Its extract carries quercitrin and other flavonoids and is used for the look of redness and blemish-prone skin. It is the entry this cleansing oil is named after, and the list carries it.
Tocopherolantioxidant
Tocopherol is vitamin E. It is an oil-soluble antioxidant that protects the oils in a formula from going rancid and works on skin as an emollient, and it is regularly paired with vitamin C because each keeps the other going for longer. The panel names it sixteenth on this cleansing oil's list, beside Houttuynia Cordata Extract.
Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extractplant extract
Turmeric Root Extract carries curcuminoids, well studied plant antioxidants. It is used for the look of dullness and uneven tone, and it tints a formula faintly yellow. The panel names it fourteenth on this cleansing oil's list, beside Houttuynia Cordata Extract.
Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extractplant extract
Melia Azadirachta is neem. Its leaf and flower extracts are long-standing Ayurvedic ingredients, and Korean formulas use them in products aimed at the look of congested, blemish-prone skin. It is named fifteenth on this cleansing oil's list, alongside Houttuynia Cordata Extract.
Corallina Officinalis Extractplant extract
Corallina Officinalis is coral seaweed, which holds calcium and magnesium in its structure. Its extract is used as a mineral-rich conditioning ingredient. The panel names it nineteenth on this cleansing oil's list, beside Houttuynia Cordata Extract.
Where does this cleansing oil go in my routine?
As the first of two evening cleanses, on dry skin and dry hands, before any water reaches the face. Nothing goes under it: this cleansing oil is the step everything else in the routine lands on top of. If you are adding it to a routine you already like, give it a week on its own first, so what you see is the Houttuynia Cordata Extract and not three changes at once.
Is this the Korean-market cleansing oil or a US version?
The Korean-market one, Houttuynia Cordata Extract and all. We match this cleansing oil to its Korean barcode before it reaches the shelf, which is the check that tells you which market release you are holding.
Does this cleansing oil contain fragrance?
Yes. The ingredient list names Fragrance. It sits on the panel printed on this page, so you can read the position for yourself before you buy. If fragrance components are something you avoid, this cleansing oil is not the one.
What else is on the list besides Houttuynia Cordata Extract?
Tocopherol, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract and Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract. The order they are printed in on this cleansing oil's panel is the order on the box, so you can see where Houttuynia Cordata Extract sits relative to them. Further down the same panel: Corallina Officinalis Extract, Melia Azadirachta Bark Extract and Ocimum Sanctum Leaf Extract.

How to use
- Pump two or three times onto dry hands and massage over completely dry skin, including the eyelids if you wear eye makeup.
- Work over the nose and jawline for a full minute, since that is where sunscreen collects.
- Wet your hands and keep massaging so the oil turns milky, then rinse with lukewarm water and follow with a gentle foaming cleanser.
- Do not apply it to wet skin, because water first stops the oil from breaking makeup up at all.
Worth knowing
- Patch test on the inner arm before applying to the face, as with any new skincare formula.
- Introduce a new active gradually into an existing routine rather than adding several new products at once.
