How it works

The Kojic Yuzu Pack Cleanser is a 60g gel cleanser, used as your first step, morning and evening, on skin wet with lukewarm water. The active it is built around is Kojic Acid, named third on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Tranexamic Acid, Niacinamide and Allantoin, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Kojic Acid stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the gel cleanser format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the gel cleanser AXIS-Y sells in Korea, Kojic Acid and all.

Key benefits

  • Kojic Acid, the active this gel cleanser is built around
  • Tranexamic Acid, Niacinamide, Allantoin and Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate on the same list, actives
  • Glutathione and Ceramide NP further down the same list
  • Citrus Junos Fruit Extract and Centella Asiatica Extract further down the same list
  • Kojic Acid named third on the manufacturer list printed on this page
  • The Korean-market release of this gel cleanser, confirmed against its Korean barcode

Key actives

Kojic Acidactive

Kojic Acid comes from the fermentation of rice by Aspergillus, the mould used to make sake. It is used in formulas addressed to the look of uneven tone, and it darkens in air. The name on the box points at it, and it is named third on this gel cleanser's own ingredient list.

Tranexamic Acidactive

Tranexamic Acid is a synthetic amino acid derivative used for the look of stubborn discolouration and post-blemish marks. It is water soluble, stable and comfortable next to niacinamide, which is how it is usually paired. It is named fourth on this gel cleanser's list, alongside Kojic Acid.

Niacinamideactive

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is named fifth on this gel cleanser's list, alongside Kojic Acid.

Allantoinactive

Allantoin is a comfrey-derived compound used to condition skin and soften the outer layer so it feels smoother. It is one of the standard additions to a formula built for easily irritated skin. It is named seventeenth on this gel cleanser's list, alongside Kojic Acid.

Dipotassium Glycyrrhizateactive

Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate is a water-soluble salt derived from licorice root. The panel names it eighteenth on this gel cleanser's list, beside Kojic Acid.

How to use

  1. As a wash, use a small amount on damp skin, massage for under a minute and rinse with lukewarm water.
  2. As a mask, spread a thin even layer and leave it three to five minutes before rinsing.
  3. Follow either version with a toner while the skin is still damp, since a rinse leaves the surface bare.
  4. Do not leave it on until it dries out, because a drying layer starts working against the skin.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this gel cleanser on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Kojic Acid on the list.
  • Introduce this gel cleanser on its own for the first week, so anything your skin does is traceable to the Kojic Acid rather than to three changes at once.

  • Niacinamide helps reduce the appearance of pores in a few ways. By strengthening the skin barrier and improving elasticity, pores appear less noticeable and more even.
