How it works

The Triple Acid Spot Care Microdot Patch is a patch, used apply a patch from it to clean, dry skin at the end of the evening routine. The active it is built around is Succinic Acid, named third on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Madecassoside, Gluconolactone and Lactic Acid, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Succinic Acid stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the patch format rather than by the list alone. Anua sells this Succinic Acid patch in Korea, and this is that version.

Key benefits

  • Succinic Acid, the active this patch is built around
  • Madecassoside on the same list, an active
  • Gluconolactone, Lactic Acid and Glycolic Acid on the same list, exfoliants
  • Salicylic Acid and Sodium Salicylate further down the same list
  • Centella Asiatica Extract and Zinc Lactate further down the same list
  • Succinic Acid named third on the manufacturer list printed on this page

Key actives

Succinic Acidactive

Succinic Acid is a small organic acid used for the look of blemish-prone skin and as a pH adjuster. It is far milder than an AHA at the levels used here. On this patch's own ingredient list it is named third.

Madecassosideactive

Madecassoside is the centella triterpene most associated with the look of redness, and the one brands lead with in cica products. It is water soluble and stable, so it appears in essences as readily as in creams. The panel names it ninth on this patch's list, beside Succinic Acid.

Gluconolactoneexfoliant

Gluconolactone is a PHA, the gentlest exfoliant class. The panel names it fifth on this patch's list, beside Succinic Acid.

Lactic Acidexfoliant

Lactic Acid is a larger AHA than glycolic, so it works nearer the surface and is easier on skin, and it is a humectant as well as an exfoliant. It is the AHA of choice for dry skin. The panel names it seventh on this patch's list, beside Succinic Acid.

Glycolic Acidexfoliant

It loosens the bonds between dead surface cells and is used for the look of dullness and rough texture. It is named eighth on this patch's list, alongside Succinic Acid.

How to use

  1. Apply a patch from the Triple Acid Spot Care Microdot Patch to clean, dry skin at the end of the evening routine.
  2. Press it down from the middle outward until the edges sit flat, and leave it in place for at least six hours or overnight.
  3. Nothing goes over it, and it holds best on bare skin, so put it on after your last leave-on layer has fully absorbed.
  4. One patch per site per session. Do not press a fresh patch onto damp skin or over a cream; it will lift within the hour.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this patch on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Succinic Acid on the list.
  • Gluconolactone and Glycolic Acid on this list makes this patch an exfoliating step, so do not stack it with another one on the same night.
