How it works

The Deep Clean Cleansing Oil is a 160ml cleansing oil, used as the first of two evening cleanses, on dry skin and dry hands, before any water reaches the face. The occlusive it is built around is Mineral Oil, named first on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Isopropyl Myristate, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate and Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, so the occlusive is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Mineral Oil stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the cleansing oil format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the cleansing oil A'PIEU sells in Korea, Mineral Oil and all.

Key benefits

  • Mineral Oil, the occlusive this cleansing oil is built around
  • Isopropyl Myristate, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate and Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil on the same list, emollients
  • PEG-8 on the same list, a humectant
  • Mineral Oil named first on the manufacturer list printed on this page
  • Sourced for the Korean market, not a US-shelf reformulation of this cleansing oil

Key actives

Mineral Oilocclusive

Mineral Oil is a purified petroleum-derived oil. Cosmetic grade is one of the most inert ingredients available, which is why it appears in patches, balms and formulas for easily irritated skin. On this cleansing oil's own ingredient list it is named first.

Isopropyl Myristateemollient

It is known to be poorly suited to blemish-prone skin at higher levels. It is named third on this cleansing oil's list, alongside Mineral Oil.

Cetyl Ethylhexanoateemollient

Cetyl Ethylhexanoate is a synthetic ester used as a dry-feeling emollient. It spreads easily, leaves a silky rather than oily finish, and helps disperse pigments and UV filters evenly. It is named fourth on this cleansing oil's list, alongside Mineral Oil.

Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oilemollient

Jojoba Oil is a liquid wax rather than a true oil, and its structure is close to human sebum, which is why it absorbs so readily. It is an emollient that leaves a soft, non-greasy finish. It is named seventh on this cleansing oil's list, alongside Mineral Oil.

PEG-8humectant

PEG-8 is a short polyethylene glycol chain. It holds water, keeps a formula fluid, and dissolves ingredients water alone cannot. It is named second on this cleansing oil's list, alongside Mineral Oil.

How to use

  1. Use this cleansing oil PM (or AM if wearing sunscreen the night before), as the first cleanser in a double cleanse. Pat or smooth it on rather than rubbing, and give it a moment to settle before layering the next step.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this cleansing oil on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Mineral Oil on the list.
  • This list names Fragrance, Limonene and Linalool, so skip it if fragrance components are something you avoid.
