- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Water solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate surfactant
- Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate is a coconut-derived surfactant that gives a dense, creamy foam while staying mild. It is the usual choice in syndet cleansing bars.
- Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate surfactant

- Coconut Acid is the mixed fatty acids of coconut oil. Combined with an alkali in the same formula it forms the soap that does the cleansing.
- Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate surfactant
- Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate is a mild coconut-derived surfactant known for a rich, creamy lather that rinses without tightness.
- Cellulose absorbent
- Cellulose is plant fibre. In a formula it thickens, absorbs oil and, in a sheet mask, is often the fabric itself.
- Oryza Sativa (Rice) Powder absorbent
- Rice ground to a powder, the ssalgaru of traditional Korean washing. It absorbs oil, softens the feel of a formula, and works as a very mild physical grain.
- Sodium Isethionate surfactant
- Sodium Isethionate is the mild cleansing salt behind syndet bars. It foams in hard water where soap would leave a scum.
- Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract plant extract
- Witch hazel extract, the classic astringent plant. Its tannins bind to surface proteins, which is the tightening feel a toner built on it gives.
- Glyceryl Stearate emulsifier
- Glyceryl Stearate is glycerin joined to stearic acid, and one of the most used emulsifiers in skincare. It holds oil and water together and thickens the result, and it softens skin at the same time.
