How to use
- Use the SHAVING BOOSTER Shaving Cream 66ml #CICA at the point in the routine the pack directs, on clean skin.
- Rinse the face with warm water to open pores. Apply the cream to the shaving area using a rolling motion. Shave in the direction of hair growth, then against it for a closer shave. Gently cleanse the skin with lukewarm water.
- Clean skin underneath, and nothing layered over it until it has settled.
- As often as the pack directs. Do not introduce it in the same week as another new leave-on product; one change at a time is the only way to read the result.
Does this product contain added fragrance?
Yes. The ingredient list for BARBER501 SHAVING BOOSTER Shaving Cream 66ml #CICA(GREEN) includes Fragrance. That is the label name for an added scent blend, whose individual components are not itemised beyond any allergens the label declares separately. The full list is printed in the Ingredients section of this page.
Does this product contain essential oils?
Yes. The ingredient list for BARBER501 SHAVING BOOSTER Shaving Cream 66ml #CICA(GREEN) includes Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Mentha Viridis (Spearmint) Leaf Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil and Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil. Aromatic plant oils are listed under their botanical name rather than as fragrance, so they are named separately from any fragrance or parfum entry.
Are any declarable fragrance allergens listed?
No. None of the 26 fragrance components that EU cosmetic labelling requires to be named individually appear on the ingredient list for BARBER501 SHAVING BOOSTER Shaving Cream 66ml #CICA(GREEN). They are the components most often reported as contact allergens, which is why that rule names them one by one.
Does this product contain denatured or SD alcohol?
Yes. The ingredient list for BARBER501 SHAVING BOOSTER Shaving Cream 66ml #CICA(GREEN) includes Alcohol. That is the solvent form of alcohol, and it is a different ingredient from the fatty alcohols such as cetyl and cetearyl alcohol that many formulas use as emollients.
Not on the ingredient list below: parabens, sulfate surfactants and mineral oil or petrolatum.
Full INCI (35): Water, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Alcohol, Cetyl Alcohol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Stearyl Alcohol, Glyceryl Stearate, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil, Mentha Viridis (Spearmint) Leaf Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Oil, Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil, Prunus Domestica Seed Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder, Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract, Pulsatilla Koreana Extract, Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract, CI 19140, CI 42090, Menthol, Fragrance

32 of 35 explained
- Water solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Dimethicone silicone
- Dimethicone is the most used cosmetic silicone. It forms a breathable film that smooths the surface, slows water leaving skin, and gives the slip that makes a primer or cream feel silky. It is inert and does not penetrate.
- Alcohol solvent
- Alcohol here means ethanol. It dissolves ingredients water cannot, evaporates fast so a formula sets quickly and does not feel heavy, and thins texture. In quantity it can leave dry or reactive skin feeling tight, which is why many Korean formulas avoid it and some deliberately use it for a fast, weightless finish.
- Cetyl Alcohol fatty alcohol
- Cetyl Alcohol is a waxy fatty alcohol from coconut or palm, unrelated to drying ethanol. It thickens creams, stabilises the emulsion and leaves skin feeling softer.
- 1,2-Hexanediol humectant
- 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
- Behentrimonium Methosulfate emulsifier
- A mild cationic conditioning agent built from rapeseed fatty acid. It sits on the surface with a positive charge, which is why it detangles and smooths, and it also helps hold an emulsion together.
- Stearyl Alcohol fatty alcohol
- Stearyl Alcohol is a solid fatty alcohol used to thicken and stabilise creams. Like the other fatty alcohols it is an emollient, not a solvent.
- Glyceryl Stearate emulsifier
- Glyceryl Stearate is glycerin joined to stearic acid, and one of the most used emulsifiers in skincare. It holds oil and water together and thickens the result, and it softens skin at the same time.
- Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Oil fragrance component
- Rosemary Leaf Oil is an essential oil carrying camphor and cineole. It scents a formula and is a stronger aromatic than most.
- Mentha Viridis (Spearmint) Leaf Oil fragrance component
- Spearmint leaf oil, an essential oil with a softer, sweeter mint character than peppermint. It scents a formula and gives a cooling feel.
- Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil fragrance component
- Bergamot Fruit Oil is a citrus essential oil and the top note of eau de cologne. It scents a formula; citrus oils are the aromatic class most likely to bother reactive skin.
20 more explained
- Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil fragrance component
- Tea Tree Leaf Oil is an essential oil from an Australian shrub, carrying terpinen-4-ol. Korean formulas use it in products aimed at blemish-prone skin; it is potent, aromatic, and one of the essential oils most likely to bother reactive skin.
- Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil emollient
- Grape Seed Oil is a light, linoleic-acid-rich oil with a fast, dry absorption. It is one of the plant oils used where an oil is wanted without a heavy finish.
- Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil emollient
- Olive Fruit Oil is high in oleic acid and plant sterols. It is a rich emollient that suits dry skin and is heavy enough that blemish-prone skin often does not get on with it.
- Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil emollient
- Avocado oil, rich in oleic acid and plant sterols. It is one of the heavier plant oils, which suits dry skin and cleansing balms.
- Camellia Japonica Seed Oil emollient
- Camellia Seed Oil is the traditional Korean and Japanese hair and skin oil, high in oleic acid. It is a light emollient that absorbs quickly for its richness.
- Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Oil emollient
- Oil from the pulp of the sea buckthorn berry rather than from its seed. The pulp oil is the richer and more strongly coloured of the two.
- Camellia Sinensis Leaf Powder absorbent
- Green tea leaf ground to a powder. In a formula it is a mild physical grain and an absorbent, and it tints the product green.
- Asiaticoside active
- Asiaticoside is one of the four active triterpenes isolated from centella and the most studied of them. Korean formulas name it separately when they want to show which fraction of the plant they standardised.
- Asiatic Acid active
- Asiatic Acid is the third of centella's four triterpenes and the aglycone form, meaning it has no attached sugar. It is oil soluble, so it turns up in cica creams and balms more than in watery layers.
- Madecassic Acid active
- Madecassic Acid is the fourth centella triterpene. A list that names all four is telling you the extract was standardised rather than simply pressed, which is the difference between a cica claim and a cica formula.
- Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract plant extract
- Camellia Sinensis is the tea plant. Green tea leaf extract carries catechins, among the most studied plant antioxidants, and is used for the look of redness and oily shine.
- Centella Asiatica Extract plant extract
- Centella Asiatica is the plant behind the whole cica category, sold as gotu kola or Madagascar centella. Its extract is the anchor of Korean formulas built for easily reddened skin, and its work is done by four triterpenes: asiaticoside, madecassoside, asiatic acid and madecassic acid.
- Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract plant extract
- Lavender Flower Extract is the water-based extract rather than the essential oil, so it is much milder and less aromatic.
- Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract plant extract
- Chamomile Flower Extract is one of the oldest ingredients in skincare, carrying bisabolol and chamazulene. It is used for the look of redness in formulas for reactive skin.
- Zanthoxylum Piperitum Fruit Extract plant extract
- Zanthoxylum Piperitum is Korean pepper. Its fruit extract is used as a conditioning plant extract and is often paired with pulsatilla and usnea in Korean formulas.
- Pulsatilla Koreana Extract plant extract
- Korean pasque flower extract, a native anemone relative. It is used as a conditioning plant extract, usually beside other Korean herbal extracts.
- Usnea Barbata (Lichen) Extract plant extract
- Beard lichen extract, carrying usnic acid. It resists microbes, so formulas use it both as a plant extract and as part of a preservative system.
- CI 19140 colorant
- Yellow 5 Lake is a synthetic yellow dye anchored to a mineral base so it stays put as a pigment rather than dissolving.
- Menthol active
- Menthol is the cooling compound in mint. It acts on the nerve receptor that also answers to cold, which is why skin feels cool without any change in temperature.
- Fragrance fragrance
- Fragrance, or Parfum, is a single declaration standing for a whole scent blend, which can be dozens of materials. Regulators allow it as a trade secret, so a list showing only this word does not say what the scent is made of. It is the most common trigger named by people with reactive skin.
