How it works

The Collagen Cleansing Oil is a 200ml cleansing oil, used as the first of two evening cleanses, on dry skin and dry hands, before any water reaches the face. The protein it is built around is Collagen Extract, named twenty-third on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Oligopeptide-1 and Copper Tripeptide-1, so the protein is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Collagen Extract stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the cleansing oil format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the cleansing oil Biodance sells in Korea, Collagen Extract and all.

Key benefits

  • Collagen Extract, the protein this cleansing oil is built around
  • Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Oligopeptide-1, Copper Tripeptide-1 and Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 on the same list, peptides
  • Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5 and Tripeptide-1 further down the same list
  • Hexapeptide-9 and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 further down the same list
  • Collagen Extract named twenty-third on the manufacturer list printed on this page
  • Original Korean Formula, the cleansing oil sold on Korean shelves

Key actives

Collagen Extractprotein

Collagen Extract is a collagen-bearing extract, usually from fish skin or scales. In a formula it works as a humectant and a smoothing film rather than as a source of new collagen. It is the entry this cleansing oil is named after, and the list carries it.

Acetyl Hexapeptide-8peptide

Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 is a six-amino-acid peptide used for the look of expression lines, particularly around the eyes. It is the peptide sold under the name Argireline and is water soluble and stable. It is named twenty-fourth on this cleansing oil's list, alongside Collagen Extract.

Oligopeptide-1peptide

Oligopeptide-1 is a short synthetic peptide. Oligo means the chain is short without the name fixing its length, which is why oligopeptides appear in blends where several sequences work together. It is named twenty-sixth on this cleansing oil's list, alongside Collagen Extract.

Copper Tripeptide-1peptide

Copper Tripeptide-1 is three amino acids bound to a copper ion, and the classic firming peptide in cosmetic chemistry. It is blue in solution, which is often why a serum carrying it is tinted, and it is used for the look of firmness and fine lines. The panel names it twenty-seventh on this cleansing oil's list, beside Collagen Extract.

Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4peptide

Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4 is the five-amino-acid peptide originally sold as Matrixyl. It is used for the look of fine lines and is one of the longest-standing cosmetic peptides. The panel names it twenty-eighth on this cleansing oil's list, beside Collagen Extract.

How to use

  1. Use the Collagen Cleansing Oil as the first of two evening cleanses, on dry skin and dry hands, before any water touches the face.
  2. Two or three pumps, massaged over dry skin for a full minute so sunscreen and makeup have time to loosen.
  3. Add a little water and keep massaging until it turns milky, rinse, then follow with a water-based cleanser; that second wash is what takes the oil off.
  4. Once a day, in the evening. Do not use it as your morning cleanse, when there is nothing on the face that needs an oil to lift it.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this cleansing oil on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Collagen Extract on the list.
  • Introduce this cleansing oil on its own for the first week, so anything your skin does is traceable to the Collagen Extract rather than to three changes at once.
