Milk Protein Extract protein

Milk Protein Extract supplies milk proteins and the lactose alongside them. It is used as a conditioning, water-holding ingredient.

Water solvent

Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.

Butylene Glycol humectant

Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.

Coco-Betaine surfactant

Coco-Betaine is a coconut-derived secondary surfactant used to build foam and make a cleanser milder.

Glycerin humectant

Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.

Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate surfactant

Potassium Cocoyl Glycinate is a coconut-and-glycine surfactant used in low-pH cleansers. It foams well and rinses without the squeaky tightness a soap leaves.

Pentylene Glycol humectant

Pentylene Glycol hydrates and, like the other longer-chain glycols, makes a formula less hospitable to microbes so the preservative system can be lighter. It also improves how evenly a product spreads.

Sodium Cocoyl Apple Amino Acids surfactant

Amino acids from apple joined to coconut fatty acids, which turns them into a very mild cleanser. It foams gently and rinses clean.

Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Extract plant extract

Rosemary extract with the plant part unstated. Rosemary carries rosmarinic and carnosic acid, and it is also used to keep the oils in a formula from going rancid.

Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Extract plant extract

Lavender extract, the water-soluble fraction rather than the essential oil. It is used as a conditioning extract and carries a light lavender scent.

Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Flower/Leaf Extract plant extract

Thyme flower and leaf extract, carrying the phenols thymol and carvacrol along with rosmarinic acid. It is used as an antioxidant herbal extract.

Pelargonium Graveolens Extract plant extract

Rose geranium extract, the water-soluble fraction rather than the essential oil. It is used as a conditioning extract with a rose-like scent.
