The active it is built around is Asiaticoside, named twenty-second on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid and Salicylic Acid, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Asiaticoside stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the foam cleanser format rather than by the list alone. - Water solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Stearic Acid fatty acid
- Stearic Acid is a saturated fatty acid from plant fats, and one of the three lipid classes skin's own barrier is built from. In a formula it thickens, stabilises the emulsion and can be turned into a soap-style cleanser by adding a base.
- Myristic Acid fatty acid
- Myristic Acid is a saturated fatty acid used to thicken and, with a base added, to build the foam in a soap-style cleanser.
- PEG-32 humectant
- PEG-32 is a longer polyethylene glycol. It is a humectant that also adds a little body to a watery formula.
- Potassium Hydroxide pH adjuster
- Potassium Hydroxide is a strong base used in traces to raise a formula to its target pH. In a soap-style cleanser it also converts fatty acids into the surfactant that does the cleansing.
- Palmitic Acid fatty acid
- Palmitic Acid is a saturated fatty acid present in skin's own lipids. It thickens a formula, stabilises the emulsion and softens skin.
- Lauric Acid fatty acid
- Lauric Acid is the coconut fatty acid that gives soap-style cleansers their dense foam. It is not well suited to blemish-prone skin at high levels.
- Glyceryl Stearate emulsifier
- Glyceryl Stearate is glycerin joined to stearic acid, and one of the most used emulsifiers in skincare. It holds oil and water together and thickens the result, and it softens skin at the same time.
- PEG-100 Stearate emulsifier
- PEG-100 Stearate is a water-loving emulsifier almost always paired with glyceryl stearate. Together they form the standard cream base of the last fifty years.
- Lauramide DEA surfactant
- Lauramide DEA is a coconut-derived foam booster. It thickens a cleanser and makes the lather denser.
- Cocamidopropyl Betaine surfactant
- Cocamidopropyl Betaine is a coconut-derived secondary surfactant. Its job is to boost foam and soften the harshness of the main cleanser rather than to clean on its own.

- Potassium Cocoate is coconut oil turned into soap. It cleanses strongly and sits at a high pH, which is what gives a traditional soap-style cleanser its squeaky finish.
- Salicylic Acid exfoliant
- Salicylic Acid is a BHA, and the only common exfoliant that is oil soluble, so it can work inside a pore rather than only on the surface. It loosens the dead cells that block pores and is used for the look of congested, oily skin.

- Disodium EDTA chelator
- EDTA is a chelator: it locks up trace metal ions from water and packaging that would otherwise turn a formula cloudy, off-colour or rancid. It does nothing to skin and appears at a fraction of a percent.
- Oleic Acid fatty acid
- Oleic Acid is the main fatty acid in olive and many nut oils. It is a rich emollient that softens skin and can feel heavy on skin prone to congestion.
- Limonene fragrance component
- Limonene is the citrus-peel aromatic. It appears here because EU labelling requires 26 fragrance components to be named individually rather than hidden inside "fragrance", and it is one of them.
- Asiaticoside active
- Asiaticoside is one of the four active triterpenes isolated from centella and the most studied of them. Korean formulas name it separately when they want to show which fraction of the plant they standardised.
- Asiatic Acid active
- Asiatic Acid is the third of centella's four triterpenes and the aglycone form, meaning it has no attached sugar. It is oil soluble, so it turns up in cica creams and balms more than in watery layers.
- Madecassic Acid active

How to use
- Use the AC Collection Calming Foam Cleanser as your first step, morning and evening, on a face already wet with lukewarm water.
- A short pump or a pea of product is enough. Work it into a lather in wet hands for about twenty seconds before it touches the face.
- Rinse with lukewarm water and go straight on to your toner while skin is still damp, because a humectant layer has more to hold on to on a damp face.
- Twice a day is the ceiling. Do not follow it with a second cleanse in the morning, when there is no sunscreen or makeup left on the face to remove.
Worth knowing
- Patch test this foam cleanser on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Asiaticoside on the list.
