How it works

The AC Collection Calming Foam Cleanser is a 150ml foam cleanser, used as your first step, morning and evening, on a face already wet with lukewarm water. The active it is built around is Asiaticoside, named twenty-second on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Asiatic Acid, Madecassic Acid and Salicylic Acid, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Asiaticoside stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the foam cleanser format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the foam cleanser COSRX sells in Korea, Asiaticoside and all.

Key benefits

  • Asiaticoside, the active this foam cleanser is built around
  • Asiatic Acid and Madecassic Acid on the same list, actives
  • Salicylic Acid on the same list, an exfoliant
  • PEG-32 on the same list, a humectant
  • Myristic Acid and Palmitic Acid further down the same list
  • Lauric Acid and Arachidic Acid further down the same list

Key actives

Asiaticosideactive

Asiaticoside is one of the four active triterpenes isolated from centella and the most studied of them. Korean formulas name it separately when they want to show which fraction of the plant they standardised. On this foam cleanser's own ingredient list it is named twenty-second.

Asiatic Acidactive

Asiatic Acid is the third of centella's four triterpenes and the aglycone form, meaning it has no attached sugar. It is oil soluble, so it turns up in cica creams and balms more than in watery layers. The panel names it twenty-third on this foam cleanser's list, beside Asiaticoside.

Madecassic Acidactive

Madecassic Acid is the fourth centella triterpene. A list that names all four is telling you the extract was standardised rather than simply pressed, which is the difference between a cica claim and a cica formula. The panel names it twenty-fourth on this foam cleanser's list, beside Asiaticoside.

Salicylic Acidexfoliant

It loosens the dead cells that block pores and is used for the look of congested, oily skin. It is named fourteenth on this foam cleanser's list, alongside Asiaticoside.

PEG-32humectant

PEG-32 is a longer polyethylene glycol. It is a humectant that also adds a little body to a watery formula. It is named fifth on this foam cleanser's list, alongside Asiaticoside.

How to use

  1. Use the AC Collection Calming Foam Cleanser as your first step, morning and evening, on a face already wet with lukewarm water.
  2. A short pump or a pea of product is enough. Work it into a lather in wet hands for about twenty seconds before it touches the face.
  3. Rinse with lukewarm water and go straight on to your toner while skin is still damp, because a humectant layer has more to hold on to on a damp face.
  4. Twice a day is the ceiling. Do not follow it with a second cleanse in the morning, when there is no sunscreen or makeup left on the face to remove.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this foam cleanser on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Asiaticoside on the list.
  • This list names Limonene and Linalool, so skip it if fragrance components are something you avoid.
  • Salicylic Acid on this list makes this foam cleanser an exfoliating step, so do not stack it with another one on the same night.
