How it works

The 5 PDRN Collagen Intense Vitalizing Serum is a 50ml serum, used after toner and before moisturizer, morning and evening. The active it is built around is Sodium DNA, named tenth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Niacinamide, Adenosine and Allantoin, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Sodium DNA stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the serum format rather than by the list alone. COSRX sells this Sodium DNA serum in Korea, and this is that version.

Key benefits

  • Sodium DNA, the active this serum is built around
  • Niacinamide, Adenosine, Allantoin and Alpha-Arbutin on the same list, actives
  • Hydrolyzed DNA and Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 further down the same list
  • Lactobacillus Ferment and Tocopherol further down the same list
  • Sodium DNA named tenth on the manufacturer list printed on this page

Key actives

Sodium DNAactive

Sodium DNA is the salt of DNA, in Korean skincare almost always salmon derived, and it is the ingredient behind the PDRN category. It is used as a humectant and for the look of tired skin; the fragments themselves are what the name PDRN refers to. It is the entry this serum is named after, and the list carries it.

Niacinamideactive

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is named sixth on this serum's list, alongside Sodium DNA.

Adenosineactive

Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated. It is named fifteenth on this serum's list, alongside Sodium DNA.

Allantoinactive

Allantoin is a comfrey-derived compound used to condition skin and soften the outer layer so it feels smoother. It is one of the standard additions to a formula built for easily irritated skin. The panel names it twenty-second on this serum's list, beside Sodium DNA.

Alpha-Arbutinactive

Alpha-Arbutin is a plant-derived compound, related to the sugar-bound form found in bearberry, used for the look of dark spots and uneven tone. It is stable in water and works at skin-friendly pH. It is named twenty-third on this serum's list, alongside Sodium DNA.

How to use

  1. Use the 5 PDRN Collagen Intense Vitalizing Serum after toner and before moisturizer, morning and evening.
  2. Three or four drops covers the face and neck. Press it in with flat palms rather than rubbing it around.
  3. Toner first, this second, then moisturizer, and sunscreen last in the morning.
  4. Twice a day, every day. Do not stack it with a second serum doing the same job; two at once do the work of one.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this serum on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Sodium DNA on the list.
  • Introduce this serum on its own for the first week, so anything your skin does is traceable to the Sodium DNA rather than to three changes at once.
