How it works
A gommage gel does not scrub: it gathers on the skin as it is massaged and lifts loose surface cells away with it when it is rinsed. This one carries papain and lactobionic acid, with Rosa damascena flower water and lavender flower water in the base and niacinamide on the same list. It goes on after cleansing in the evening, on damp skin, and it is rinsed off before the rest of the routine. Skin that looks rough and dull but does not want an acid every evening is the case this format suits. Two or three evenings a week, and not on the same evening as an acid or a retinoid.
Key benefits
- Cellulose is the second ingredient, forming the soft rub-away beads
- Papain and lactobionic acid add mild enzymatic and PHA-class polish
- Niacinamide and three hyaluronate entries keep the finish fresh, not raw
- Rose and lavender flower waters soften the base
Key actives

Papain

COSRX Low pH Goodnight Soft Peeling Gel
What does this peeling gel actually remove, dead skin or a physical layer?
It works with lactobionic acid, a gentle PHA, and papain, a fruit enzyme, both listed mid-formula, rather than with abrasive scrub particles. Both work by loosening dead surface cells chemically or enzymatically, and any visible rolling texture during use is from that loosened debris mixing with the gel, not from scrubbing.
Is this exfoliant gentle enough for nightly use?
Lactobionic acid is a PHA, generally considered the gentlest acid family, and papain works enzymatically rather than through a stronger acid concentration. Combined with niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and several ferment filtrates for support, the formula is built for the 'Goodnight' frequency the name suggests, though sensitive skin should still start a few nights a week.
What are the ferment ingredients in this gel for?
Lactobacillus and soybean ferment extract, plus a separate lactobacillus and rice ferment, appear toward the end of the list. Fermented ingredients like these are typically included in Korean formulas for their soothing and skin-conditioning reputation, supporting the exfoliating acids rather than exfoliating themselves.
Does this contain fragrance or rose water?
Rosa damascena flower water appears near the top of the list, giving both a light floral note and a soothing, hydrating base. The list does not separately declare fragrance or parfum.
Is niacinamide doing anything meaningful in an exfoliating gel like this?
Niacinamide sits roughly midway through the list, after the acid and enzyme portion. In a leave-on gel like this it contributes brightening support alongside the exfoliation, rather than requiring the acid to do all the work of improving skin tone and texture.

How to use
- Use the Low pH Goodnight Soft Peeling Gel in the evening, after cleansing, on skin that is still damp.
- A coin-sized amount, massaged over the face in light circles for under a minute while the gel gathers.
- Rinse it off, then carry on with toner, serum and moisturizer the same evening.
- Two or three evenings a week. Do not press hard or keep going past a minute; a gel like this lifts rather than scrubs.
