How it works
Waterfull Essence Sun Cream SPF50+/PA++++ is a sun cream from d'Alba. d'Alba's catalog centers on one repeated house ingredient, named directly in most of its product titles, carried across serums, creams, oils and sun care under one Piedmont-sourced line. Texture and placement do the work here: a sun cream is defined by where it sits in a routine and how it feels going on, not by a single named active on this listing. Use it as the last step of a morning routine, before makeup. d'Alba sells this as the Korean-market formula, the same one stocked on shelves in Korea rather than a version built for the US market.
Key benefits
- Waterfull Essence Sun Cream SPF50+/PA++++ is d'Alba's sun cream, 50ml, sized for regular use rather than a trial amount
- d'Alba's wider catalog is built the same way: d'Alba's catalog centers on one repeated house ingredient, named directly in most of its product titles, carried across serums, creams, oils and sun care under one Piedmont-sourced line
- Waterfull Essence Sun Cream SPF50+/PA++++ fits as the last step of a morning routine, before makeup
- d'Alba's Waterfull Essence Sun Cream SPF50+/PA++++ is sold here as the Korean-market formula: over-labeled in English for US sale rather than reformulated for the US market
- Waterfull Essence Sun Cream SPF50+/PA++++ keeps the Korean barcode and batch code that print on the unit sold on shelves in Korea
How to use
- Smooth over the face as the last step of a morning routine.
What is Waterfull Essence Sun Cream SPF50+/PA++++?
It is d'Alba's sun cream (50ml), part of d'Alba's Korean-market catalog. It is used as the last step of a morning routine, before makeup, and it is sold here as the same formula stocked on shelves in Korea.
Is Waterfull Essence Sun Cream SPF50+/PA++++ the authentic Korean-market formula?
Yes. This listing is d'Alba's Korean-market formula: the same ingredient list, barcode and batch code as the unit sold on shelves in Korea, rather than a version reformulated for US retail. That is the whole reason to buy a Korean-market brand from a specialist rather than a general retailer.
Who is Waterfull Essence Sun Cream SPF50+/PA++++ suited for?
It is not restricted to any one skin tone or age group. As with any new step, patch-test on the inner arm first if you are new to this formula or to d'Alba.
Not on the ingredient list below: fragrance or parfum, denatured or SD alcohol, parabens, sulfate surfactants, mineral oil or petrolatum and added color.

40 of 46 explained
- Water solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Butylene Glycol humectant
- Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.
- Silica absorbent
- Silica is finely milled mineral, essentially very pure sand. It absorbs oil, stops powders clumping and soft-focuses the look of pores and fine lines.
- Niacinamide active
- Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is used at roughly 2 to 5 percent for the look of uneven tone and visible pores, and it is water soluble, stable and comfortable beside almost every other active, which is why it turns up in so many lists.
- Benzotriazolyl Dodecyl P-Cresol antioxidant
- A light stabiliser. Its job is to keep the formula itself from degrading in light, so it is a product-stability ingredient rather than one aimed at skin.
- 1,2-Hexanediol humectant
- 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
- Caprylyl Methicone silicone
- Caprylyl Methicone is a silicone with a fatty tail, so it mixes with plant oils as well as with silicones. It gives a dry slip and helps disperse powders.
- Pentylene Glycol humectant
- Pentylene Glycol hydrates and, like the other longer-chain glycols, makes a formula less hospitable to microbes so the preservative system can be lighter. It also improves how evenly a product spreads.
- Salvia Hispanica Seed Extract plant extract
- Chia seed extract. Chia seed swells into a gel in water, so the extract hydrates and leaves a cushioned feel.
- Centella Asiatica Extract plant extract
- Centella Asiatica is the plant behind the whole cica category, sold as gotu kola or Madagascar centella. Its extract is the anchor of Korean formulas built for easily reddened skin, and its work is done by four triterpenes: asiaticoside, madecassoside, asiatic acid and madecassic acid.
- Portulaca Oleracea Extract plant extract
- Portulaca Oleracea is purslane. Its extract is unusually high in omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants for a plant, and Korean formulas use it for the look of reddened, reactive skin.
- Houttuynia Cordata Extract plant extract
- Houttuynia Cordata is heartleaf, and it is one of the two or three anchor plants of Korean calming skincare. Its extract carries quercitrin and other flavonoids and is used for the look of redness and blemish-prone skin.
28 more explained
- Curcuma Longa (turmeric) Root Extract plant extract
- Turmeric Root Extract carries curcuminoids, well studied plant antioxidants. It is used for the look of dullness and uneven tone, and it tints a formula faintly yellow.
- Cardiospermum Halicacabum Flower/Leaf/Vine Extract plant extract
- Balloon vine extract, taken from the whole climbing plant. It is one of the plant extracts formulas built for reactive, itchy-feeling skin lean on.
- Tuber Magnatum Extract plant extract
- White truffle extract. It carries amino acids, sterols and polysaccharides and is used as a conditioning extract.
- Wine Extract plant extract
- Wine extract, carrying grape polyphenols including resveratrol. It is used as a plant antioxidant.
- Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (orange) Oil fragrance component
- Sweet Orange Peel Oil is a citrus essential oil carrying limonene. It scents a formula, and limonene is one of the components EU labelling names separately.
- Citrus Nobilis (mandarin Orange) Peel Oil fragrance component
- Mandarin peel oil, an essential oil pressed from the rind. It scents a formula, and citrus peel oils are among the essential oils most likely to bother reactive skin.
- Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil emollient
- Echium seed oil, one of the few plant oils carrying stearidonic acid. It is a light oil used to soften skin.
- Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil fragrance
- May chang oil, a bright lemon-scented essential oil pressed from a small Asian tree. Its scent comes mostly from citral, the same aromatic that gives lemongrass its character.
- Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) Seed Oil emollient
- Sunflower Seed Oil is high in linoleic acid, the fatty acid dry and blemish-prone skin is often short of. It is a light, non-fragrant emollient and one of the better tolerated plant oils.
- Polymethylsilsesquioxane silicone
- Polymethylsilsesquioxane is a silicone resin in fine sphere form. It soft-focuses the look of pores and lines and gives a smooth, powdery finish.
- Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/Vp Copolymer thickener
- This is a synthetic thickener that gels quickly and holds an emulsion stable across a wide pH range. It gives a light, non-tacky body.
- Propanediol humectant
- Propanediol is a plant-derived glycol used in place of propylene glycol. It hydrates, carries actives into solution, and gives a lighter, less sticky slip than glycerin at the same strength.
- Saccharide Hydrolysate humectant
- Saccharide Hydrolysate is a mixture of plant sugars broken down for use as a humectant. It holds water in the outer layer.
- Octyldodecanol emollient
- Octyldodecanol is a branched fatty alcohol used as an emollient and as a solvent for pigments and mineral powders. It thickens slightly and leaves a soft finish.
- Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer thickener
- This is a carbomer relative with fatty side chains, so it thickens and stabilises an emulsion at the same time. It gives a light gel-cream body rather than a heavy one.
- Tromethamine pH adjuster
- Tromethamine neutralises acidic thickeners such as carbomer so they gel, and holds a formula near skin-friendly pH. It is used at a fraction of a percent.
- Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose Stearoxy Ether thickener
- Modified cellulose with a fatty stearyl chain added, so it thickens and emulsifies at once. It gives a cushioned, slightly bouncy gel texture.
- Ethylhexylglycerin preservative booster
- Ethylhexylglycerin softens skin and boosts a preservative system, which is why it is nearly always sitting beside phenoxyethanol or 1,2-hexanediol. It also cuts down the odour bacteria produce, so it turns up in deodorising products.
- Adenosine active
- Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated.
- Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) Seed Oil Unsaponifiables emollient
- The fraction of sunflower oil that cannot be turned into soap, which is where its sterols and vitamin E concentrate. It softens skin and helps hold water in.
- Xylitylglucoside humectant
- Xylitylglucoside is a sugar-derived humectant, the third member of the xylitol blend. Together the three hold water in the outer layer for longer than any of them does alone.
- Anhydroxylitol humectant
- Anhydroxylitol is a xylitol derivative used as a humectant. It is almost always part of the xylitol, anhydroxylitol and xylitylglucoside blend sold as a moisture-retention complex.
- Xylitol humectant
- Xylitol is a sugar alcohol humectant. It holds water in the outer layer of skin and is often paired with anhydroxylitol and xylitylglucoside as a hydration trio.
- Tocopherol antioxidant
- Tocopherol is vitamin E. It is an oil-soluble antioxidant that protects the oils in a formula from going rancid and works on skin as an emollient, and it is regularly paired with vitamin C because each keeps the other going for longer.
- Sodium PCA humectant
- Sodium PCA is one of the substances skin makes for itself to hold water, part of what dermatology calls the natural moisturising factor. Added to a formula it is a strong humectant that suits skin that dehydrates quickly.
- Glucose humectant
- Glucose is a simple sugar used as a humectant and as food for the ferment ingredients in the same formula. It hydrates mildly and adds a soft slip.
- Limonene fragrance component
- Limonene is the citrus-peel aromatic. It appears here because EU labelling requires 26 fragrance components to be named individually rather than hidden inside "fragrance", and it is one of them.
- Citral fragrance component
- Citral is a sharp lemon aromatic found in lemongrass and citrus oils. It is one of the 26 fragrance components EU labelling requires to be named.
