Dr.G Royal Black Snail Ampoule 30ml

Royal Black Snail Ampoule is Dr.G's ampoule serum (30ml), built around Snail Secretion Filtrate and Squalane. It is used after toner and before moisturizer, as the routine's concentrated treatment step. This is the same formula Korean shoppers buy off the shelf in Seoul, not a version built for US retail.

How it works

The Royal Black Snail Ampoule is a 30ml ampoule, used after toner and before moisturizer, morning and evening. The humectant it is built around is Snail Secretion Filtrate, named first on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Niacinamide, Adenosine and Zymomonas Ferment Extract, so the humectant is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Snail Secretion Filtrate stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the ampoule format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the ampoule Dr.G sells in Korea, Snail Secretion Filtrate and all.

Key benefits

  • Snail Secretion Filtrate, the humectant this ampoule is built around
  • Niacinamide and Adenosine on the same list, actives
  • Zymomonas Ferment Extract on the same list, a ferment
  • Ceramide NP on the same list, a barrier lipid
  • Glycosphingolipids and Cholesterol further down the same list
  • Hydrolyzed Royal Jelly Protein and Beta-Glucan further down the same list

Key actives

Snail Secretion Filtratehumectant

Snail Secretion Filtrate is the mucin a snail produces, filtered for cosmetic use, and it is the ingredient the Korean snail category is built on. It carries glycoproteins, hyaluronic acid and glycolic acid, and it is used for hydration and a smoother-looking surface. It is the entry this ampoule is named after, and the list carries it.

Niacinamideactive

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is named eighth on this ampoule's list, alongside Snail Secretion Filtrate.

Adenosineactive

Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated. The panel names it twentieth on this ampoule's list, beside Snail Secretion Filtrate.

Zymomonas Ferment Extractferment

A ferment of zymomonas, the bacterium behind agave based fermentation. It supplies sugars, peptides and organic acids and is used as a conditioning ferment. It is named thirty-fifth on this ampoule's list, alongside Snail Secretion Filtrate.

Ceramide NPbarrier lipid

Ceramide NP is the most used cosmetic ceramide, the same class of lipid that makes up roughly half the mortar between cells in the outer layer of skin. Added to a cream it slots into that structure, which is why ceramide formulas feel less leaky rather than merely greasy. It is named thirty-third on this ampoule's list, alongside Snail Secretion Filtrate.

How to use

  1. Use it twice a day after the watery step, on a clean face and before any cream.
  2. Warm a small amount between the fingertips first, then press it over the cheeks, forehead and chin.
  3. Give it thirty seconds to settle before the next layer goes on, which is what keeps anything from balling up.
  4. Avoid applying it to skin that is completely dry after a long gap, since a thin layer spreads much further on damp skin.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this ampoule on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Snail Secretion Filtrate on the list.
  • This list names Fragrance and Parfum, so skip it if fragrance components are something you avoid.
