How it works
The Facial Cleanser is a 190ml gel cleanser, used as your first step, morning and evening, on skin wet with lukewarm water. The active it is built around is Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, named twenty-first on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Tocopherol, Psidium Guajava (Guava) Fruit Extract and Coptis Japonica Extract, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the gel cleanser format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the gel cleanser Glow Guava sells in Korea, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate and all.
Key benefits
- Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, the active this gel cleanser is built around
- Tocopherol on the same list, an antioxidant
- Psidium Guajava (Guava) Fruit Extract and Coptis Japonica Extract on the same list, plant extracts
- Triethylhexanoin on the same list, an emollient
- Cetyl Ethylhexanoate and Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil further down the same list
- Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate named twenty-first on the manufacturer list printed on this page
Key actives
Dipotassium Glycyrrhizateactive
Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate is a water-soluble salt derived from licorice root. On this gel cleanser's own ingredient list it is named twenty-first.
Tocopherolantioxidant
Tocopherol is vitamin E. It is an oil-soluble antioxidant that protects the oils in a formula from going rancid and works on skin as an emollient, and it is regularly paired with vitamin C because each keeps the other going for longer. The panel names it eighteenth on this gel cleanser's list, beside Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate.
Psidium Guajava (Guava) Fruit Extractplant extract
Guava fruit extract, carrying vitamin C, sugars and fruit acids. It is used as a conditioning antioxidant botanical. The panel names it seventeenth on this gel cleanser's list, beside Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate.
Coptis Japonica Extractplant extract
Japanese goldthread extract, the whole plant rather than only the root. It carries berberine, is bright yellow, and is used for the look of congested skin. It is named nineteenth on this gel cleanser's list, alongside Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate.
Triethylhexanoinemollient
Triethylhexanoin is a light ester emollient that softens skin and disperses pigment. It absorbs cleanly and is often used to thin a heavy oil phase. The panel names it second on this gel cleanser's list, beside Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate.
Where does this gel cleanser go in my routine?
As your first step, morning and evening, on skin wet with lukewarm water. Nothing goes under it: this gel cleanser is the step everything else in the routine lands on top of. If you are adding it to a routine you already like, give it a week on its own first, so what you see is the Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate and not three changes at once.
Is this the Korean-market gel cleanser or a US version?
The Korean-market one, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate and all. We match this gel cleanser to its Korean barcode before it reaches the shelf, which is the check that tells you which market release you are holding.
Does this gel cleanser contain fragrance?
Yes. The ingredient list names Fragrance. It sits on the panel printed on this page, so you can read the position for yourself before you buy. If fragrance components are something you avoid, this gel cleanser is not the one.
What else is on the list besides Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate?
Tocopherol, Psidium Guajava (Guava) Fruit Extract and Coptis Japonica Extract. The order they are printed in on this gel cleanser's panel is the order on the box, so you can see where Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate sits relative to them. Further down the same panel: Triethylhexanoin, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate and Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil.

How to use
- Use the Facial Cleanser as your first step, morning and evening, on skin wet with lukewarm water.
- Shake the bottle well to mix the 2 layers and dispense an appropriate amount on palms. Gently massage on dry face to remove make up, then add water to emulsify. Rinse off completely with lukewarm water.
- Rinse and tone while skin is still damp. Everything after this lands on bare skin, so it decides what the rest of the routine is working with.
- Twice a day, every day. Do not stretch the massage past a minute or finish with hot water; both leave the surface feeling tight rather than clean.
Worth knowing
- Patch test this gel cleanser on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate on the list.
- This list names Fragrance, so skip it if fragrance components are something you avoid.
