How it works

The Heartleaf Hyaluron Soothing Pore Cleansing Oil is a 200ml cleansing oil, used as the first of two evening cleanses, on dry skin and dry hands, before any water reaches the face. The humectant it is built around is Sodium Hyaluronate, named thirtieth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Succinic Acid, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate and Ceramide NP, so the humectant is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Sodium Hyaluronate stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the cleansing oil format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the cleansing oil goodal sells in Korea, Sodium Hyaluronate and all.

Key benefits

  • Sodium Hyaluronate, the humectant this cleansing oil is built around
  • Succinic Acid on the same list, an active
  • Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate on the same list, an antioxidant
  • Ceramide NP and Ceramide AS on the same list, barrier lipids
  • Ceramide AP and Ceramide NS further down the same list
  • Cholesterol and Ceramide EOP further down the same list

Key actives

Sodium Hyaluronatehumectant

Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid, and it is what most products labelled hyaluronic actually contain. The salt dissolves more readily and the molecule is smaller, so it sits in the outer layer of skin rather than only on top of it. The name on the box points at it, and it is named thirtieth on this cleansing oil's own ingredient list.

Succinic Acidactive

Succinic Acid is a small organic acid used for the look of blemish-prone skin and as a pH adjuster. It is far milder than an AHA at the levels used here. The panel names it thirty-fourth on this cleansing oil's list, beside Sodium Hyaluronate.

Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamateantioxidant

This is a stabiliser that keeps the oils and fragrance in a formula from oxidising. Its job is the shelf life of the product rather than any effect on skin. The panel names it thirty-second on this cleansing oil's list, beside Sodium Hyaluronate.

Ceramide NPbarrier lipid

Ceramide NP is the most used cosmetic ceramide, the same class of lipid that makes up roughly half the mortar between cells in the outer layer of skin. Added to a cream it slots into that structure, which is why ceramide formulas feel less leaky rather than merely greasy. The panel names it thirty-eighth on this cleansing oil's list, beside Sodium Hyaluronate.

Ceramide ASbarrier lipid

Ceramide AS is a further member of the same lipid family. Its presence usually signals a formula built around a full ceramide profile rather than a single headline one. The panel names it forty-second on this cleansing oil's list, beside Sodium Hyaluronate.

How to use

  1. Take two to three pumps of Heartleaf Hyaluron Soothing Pore Cleansing Oil 200ml into dry hands and massage over a dry face, working makeup and sunscreen loose.
  2. Add a small splash of water to emulsify the oil into a milky texture, then continue massaging for a few more seconds.
  3. Rinse fully, then follow with a water-based cleanser as the second half of the cleanse.
  4. Give Heartleaf Hyaluron Soothing Pore Cleansing Oil 200ml a moment to settle rather than layering the next product straight on top while it is still wet.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this cleansing oil on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Sodium Hyaluronate on the list.
  • Introduce this cleansing oil on its own for the first week, so anything your skin does is traceable to the Sodium Hyaluronate rather than to three changes at once.

What professionals say

What professionals say

What skin-care professionals say about the key actives in this formula, quoted from the medical sources linked beside each.

  • Hyaluronic acid helps bind water to collagen, which traps water in the skin. That helps make the skin more plump and full-looking.

  • Ceramides are part fatty acid and part amino acid and are able to be the grout that keeps the building blocks of the skin together and functioning as a barrier between the inside and outside world.
