HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer absorbent

A spherical polymer powder. The spheres roll under the fingers, absorb a little oil and scatter light, which softens the look of pores and fine lines.

Silica absorbent

Silica is finely milled mineral, essentially very pure sand. It absorbs oil, stops powders clumping and soft-focuses the look of pores and fine lines.

Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer silicone

This is a silicone elastomer, a soft springy gel. It fills the look of fine texture and gives the velvety, blurred finish of a primer.

Dimethicone silicone

Dimethicone is the most used cosmetic silicone. It forms a breathable film that smooths the surface, slows water leaving skin, and gives the slip that makes a primer or cream feel silky. It is inert and does not penetrate.

Mica colorant

Mica is a mineral ground into fine flakes. It scatters light, so it lightens a shade and gives the soft glow of a tinted or illuminating product.

Triethoxycaprylylsilane silicone

Triethoxycaprylylsilane is a coating applied to mineral powders so they disperse evenly and resist water rather than clumping.

Ethylhexylglycerin preservative booster

Ethylhexylglycerin softens skin and boosts a preservative system, which is why it is nearly always sitting beside phenoxyethanol or 1,2-hexanediol. It also cuts down the odour bacteria produce, so it turns up in deodorising products.

Glyceryl Caprylate emulsifier

Glyceryl Caprylate is a mild emulsifier that also makes a formula less hospitable to microbes, so it is often part of a preservative-free system.

Dimethiconol silicone

Dimethiconol is a high-molecular-weight silicone that leaves a longer-lasting smooth film than dimethicone. It is used for lasting slip and shine.

Iron Oxides (CI 77492) colorant

Iron Oxides are mineral pigments in red, yellow and black, and the three are blended to make every skin-tone shade in a tinted product. They are inert and sit on the surface.

Aluminum Hydroxide absorbent

Aluminum Hydroxide is a mineral powder used to coat pigments so they disperse evenly, and to absorb a little oil. It is not an antiperspirant salt.

Alcohol solvent

Alcohol here means ethanol. It dissolves ingredients water cannot, evaporates fast so a formula sets quickly and does not feel heavy, and thins texture. In quantity it can leave dry or reactive skin feeling tight, which is why many Korean formulas avoid it and some deliberately use it for a fast, weightless finish.
