How it works

A curler is hardware: the difference between one and another is fit against the eye socket and the state of the rubber pad. It works by holding even pressure at the lash base for a couple of seconds rather than by squeezing hard once. It belongs before mascara on clean dry lashes, since a curler used over a wet coat is how lashes get pulled out. The pad wears flat with use, and replacing it is what keeps the curl clean rather than creased. Because it touches the lash line directly, wiping the pad and frame down regularly matters more here than it does with anything you rinse off a face.

Key benefits

  • What it is: eyelash curler, one curler, used before mascara, on clean dry lashes.
  • Build: a metal frame with a replaceable rubber pad.
  • Aimed at: curling lashes before mascara, a softer curve rather than a sharp bend, everyday makeup.
  • Korean-market stock: the version sold in Korea rather than a US retail variant.

How to use

  1. Work on clean dry lashes and leave mascara until afterwards.
  2. Rest the frame at the base of the lashes and hold a gentle squeeze for around two seconds.
  3. Repeat once or twice further along the lash so the curl is a curve rather than a bend.
  4. Never use it over a wet coat of mascara, and never tug it off while the frame is still closed.

Worth knowing

  • Never pull the curler away while it is closed, since that is how lashes break.
  • Replace the rubber pad when it flattens or splits, as a worn pad creases the lash.
  • Wipe the pad and frame clean regularly, because a tool used near the eye should be clean.
