How it works

The GIM PDRN Hydro Bouncy Ampoule is a 50ml ampoule, used after toner and before moisturizer, morning and evening. The active it is built around is Sodium DNA, named twenty-third on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Adenosine, Allantoin and Lactobacillus Ferment, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Sodium DNA stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the ampoule format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the ampoule Isntree sells in Korea, Sodium DNA and all.

Key benefits

  • Sodium DNA, the active this ampoule is built around
  • Adenosine and Allantoin on the same list, actives
  • Lactobacillus Ferment on the same list, a ferment
  • Tocopherol on the same list, an antioxidant
  • Collagen and Beta-Glucan further down the same list
  • Porphyra Yezoensis Extract and Coptis Japonica Root Extract further down the same list

Key actives

Sodium DNAactive

Sodium DNA is the salt of DNA, in Korean skincare almost always salmon derived, and it is the ingredient behind the PDRN category. It is used as a humectant and for the look of tired skin; the fragments themselves are what the name PDRN refers to. It is the entry this ampoule is named after, and the list carries it.

Adenosineactive

Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated. It is named fourteenth on this ampoule's list, alongside Sodium DNA.

Allantoinactive

Allantoin is a comfrey-derived compound used to condition skin and soften the outer layer so it feels smoother. It is one of the standard additions to a formula built for easily irritated skin. The panel names it thirty-first on this ampoule's list, beside Sodium DNA.

Lactobacillus Fermentferment

Lactobacillus Ferment is the liquid left after lactobacillus bacteria have fermented a plant or milk substrate. It carries the small molecules the fermentation produced, including lactic acid and amino acids, and is used for the look of dull, uneven skin. The panel names it thirty-third on this ampoule's list, beside Sodium DNA.

Tocopherolantioxidant

Tocopherol is vitamin E. It is an oil-soluble antioxidant that protects the oils in a formula from going rancid and works on skin as an emollient, and it is regularly paired with vitamin C because each keeps the other going for longer. The panel names it twenty-seventh on this ampoule's list, beside Sodium DNA.

How to use

  1. Apply after toner while the surface is still damp so the gel spreads rather than dragging.
  2. Take a small amount and press it over the whole face with flat fingertips.
  3. Follow with a moisturiser, since a fast absorbing gel leaves nothing behind to hold water in.
  4. Do not rub it in circles, because a bouncy gel balls up when you work it around.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this ampoule on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Sodium DNA on the list.
  • Introduce this ampoule on its own for the first week, so anything your skin does is traceable to the Sodium DNA rather than to three changes at once.
