Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride emollient

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is the light fraction of coconut oil, with the heavy parts removed. It is the workhorse emollient of modern formulas: it softens skin, dissolves oil-soluble actives and absorbs without the greasy weight of a whole plant oil.

Cetyl Ethylhexanoate emollient

Cetyl Ethylhexanoate is a synthetic ester used as a dry-feeling emollient. It spreads easily, leaves a silky rather than oily finish, and helps disperse pigments and UV filters evenly.

Isononyl Isononanoate emollient

Isononyl Isononanoate is a branched ester used as a dry emollient. It spreads far for its weight and leaves almost no residue, which is why it appears in formulas that have to feel weightless.

Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil emollient

Jojoba Oil is a liquid wax rather than a true oil, and its structure is close to human sebum, which is why it absorbs so readily. It is an emollient that leaves a soft, non-greasy finish.

Isopropyl Myristate emollient

Isopropyl Myristate is a light ester emollient that absorbs fast and helps other ingredients penetrate. It is known to be poorly suited to blemish-prone skin at higher levels.

PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate emulsifier

A nonionic emulsifier built on glycerin and branched fatty acids. Cleansing oils and balms use it so they emulsify the moment water is added.

Polysorbate 20 emulsifier

Polysorbate 20 is a solubiliser: it dissolves small amounts of oil or fragrance into a watery formula so nothing separates or floats.

Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Seed Oil emollient

Blackcurrant seed oil, one of the few plant oils that carries gamma-linolenic acid. It softens skin and helps hold water in.

Tocopheryl Acetate antioxidant

Tocopheryl Acetate is a stable vitamin E ester that skin converts to tocopherol. It is used as an antioxidant and a light emollient and holds up better than plain vitamin E in a formula.
