Diatomaceous Earth absorbent

Diatomaceous Earth is fossilised algae shells, which are almost pure silica. It absorbs oil and works as a very fine polishing grain.

Glucose humectant

Glucose is a simple sugar used as a humectant and as food for the ferment ingredients in the same formula. It hydrates mildly and adds a soft slip.

Tapioca Starch absorbent

Cassava starch. It absorbs oil and leaves a dry, powdery finish, which is how a cream is made to feel matte.

Dextrin thickener

Dextrin is a starch fragment used to thicken and to give a formula a light, powdery finish. It is also a common carrier for powdered extracts.

Algin thickener

Algin is a brown-seaweed polysaccharide. It thickens, forms a film, and sets into a rubbery gel when calcium is added, which is how a peel-off modelling mask works.

Kaolin absorbent

Kaolin is white clay, the mildest of the cosmetic clays. It absorbs oil and lifts loose debris from the surface without stripping, which is why it is the clay used on drier skin.
