How it works
Mediheal is one of Korea's best known sheet mask houses, built its name on dermatology-clinic-style single-use masks sold by the box across Olive Young and its own lineups, and The Teatree Pore Powder Wash 50g is one of its makeup base entries. Betaine sits within the first ten ingredients, a humectant and comfort ingredient common across Korean bases. Tea Tree Leaf Oil sits within the first ten ingredients, the ingredient behind Mediheal's tea-tree line and a long-standing Korean choice for oil-prone, blemish-prone skin. Tea Tree Leaf Oil sits further down the ingredient list, the ingredient behind Mediheal's tea-tree line and a long-standing Korean choice for oil-prone, blemish-prone skin. Betaine Salicylate sits further down the ingredient list, a BHA exfoliant included to keep pores and texture in check. As a makeup base, it functions as a complexion-prep step used before or in place of foundation in a layered Korean routine. It comes in a 50g format.

20 of 23 explained
- Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate surfactant
- An amino-acid surfactant built from coconut fatty acids and glycine. Amino-acid surfactants clean at a pH close to the pH of skin itself, which is why low-pH Korean cleansers are built on them.
- Potassium Myristate surfactant
- Potassium Myristate is the soap made from myristic acid. It gives a cleanser a dense, creamy lather, and being a soap it works at alkaline pH.
- Pullulan film former
- Pullulan is a fermentation-derived polysaccharide that dries to a tight film, which is why it produces a temporary, visible tightening feel on the skin.
- Charcoal Powder absorbent
- Activated charcoal, a very porous carbon powder. Its surface binds oil and pigment, and it is what makes a mask or cleanser black.
- Sodium Polyacrylate thickener
- Sodium Polyacrylate is a polymer that absorbs many times its weight in water. It thickens a formula and holds water in a gel against the skin.
- Betaine humectant
- Betaine is a sugar-beet-derived humectant that cells use to hold water. In a formula it hydrates and takes the edge off cleansers and acids, which is why it often appears alongside them.
- Tea Tree Leaf Oil (3,000 Ppm) fragrance component
- Tea tree oil, an essential oil rich in terpinen-4-ol. It is used for the look of congested skin, and at higher levels it is one of the essential oils most likely to bother reactive skin.
- Mannitol humectant
- Mannitol is a sugar alcohol used as a humectant and antioxidant. It hydrates and helps stabilise the rest of the formula against oxidation.
- Papain exfoliant
- Papain is a protein-cutting enzyme from papaya. Enzyme exfoliants act on protein rather than on the bonds an acid targets, and they need water to work, which is why they suit powder washes.
- Bromelain active
- Bromelain is the protein splitting enzyme group found in pineapple stem and fruit. In cosmetics it is used in enzyme formulas that loosen the keratin holding dead surface cells together.
- Purified Water solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- 1,2-Hexanediol humectant
- 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
8 more explained
- Tea Tree Leaf Water (0.00001 Ppm) plant extract
- Tea Tree Leaf Water is the distillate, used in place of plain water as a base. It carries a trace of the plant's aroma and none of the essential oil's strength.
- Lactobacillus Ferment ferment
- Lactobacillus Ferment is the liquid left after lactobacillus bacteria have fermented a plant or milk substrate. It carries the small molecules the fermentation produced, including lactic acid and amino acids, and is used for the look of dull, uneven skin.
- Lactobionic Acid exfoliant
- Lactobionic Acid is a polyhydroxy acid, the gentlest of the acid families because the molecule is large and slow to travel. It is also a strong humectant.
- Capryloyl Salicylic Acid exfoliant
- Capryloyl Salicylic Acid is salicylic acid with a fatty tail, sometimes sold as LHA. It stays nearer the surface than salicylic acid and works at a higher pH, so it exfoliates more evenly and more gently.
- Citric Acid pH adjuster
- Citric Acid is used in tiny amounts to bring a formula to the pH its actives need, not as an exfoliant at that level. It is an AHA, so at much higher concentrations it can also exfoliate.
- Betaine Salicylate exfoliant
- Betaine Salicylate is a gentler salicylic derivative. Korean formulas use it at around 2 to 4 percent, which is roughly comparable to a low-strength salicylic acid, and it is easier on the skin barrier.
- 4-Terpineol fragrance component
- A terpene alcohol, and the main constituent of tea tree oil. On a label it is an aromatic plant constituent rather than a functional ingredient.
- Silica absorbent
- Silica is finely milled mineral, essentially very pure sand. It absorbs oil, stops powders clumping and soft-focuses the look of pores and fine lines.
