How it works

A shampoo has one job on the scalp and a short list is the easiest way to keep it from causing a second problem. This one runs to fifteen entries: a surfactant base, glycerin, then pine leaf extract, centella asiatica extract, madecassoside, asiaticoside and panthenol. That puts the calming ingredients of Round Lab's Pine Calming Cica line into the step that actually touches scalp skin. It is used the way any shampoo is, worked into the scalp rather than the lengths, and rinsed fully. Use it every wash, and give a scalp several weeks before deciding whether the change helped.

Key benefits

  • Cocamidopropyl Betaine: a mild, naturally derived humectant
  • Centella Asiatica Extract: a calming plant extract, the anchor of Korean cica skincare
  • Madecassoside: a centella-derived compound carried for its calming reputation
  • Asiaticoside: another of centella's active triterpenes
  • Opens with Water, Sodium C14-16 Olefin Sulfonate, Lauryl Hydroxysultaine, Glycerin and Cocamidopropyl Betaine, the ingredients Round Lab put first
  • No fragrance or parfum on the ingredient list

How to use

  1. Use the Pine Calming Cica Shampoo in place of your usual shampoo, on hair wet all the way through.
  2. A palmful, worked into a lather in your hands first, then massaged into the scalp with fingertips rather than nails.
  3. Rinse thoroughly, then follow with your usual conditioner or treatment through the mid-lengths and ends.
  4. As often as you already wash. Do not pile it straight onto dry hair; a shampoo needs water in the hair to spread at all.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test on the inner arm before first use on the face, especially if trying this brand or formula for the first time.
  • Store away from direct sunlight and heat so the formula and any actives inside stay stable through its shelf life.
