What is this product, and who is it for?

It is a lightweight soothing cream in a 80ml jar, made for dry skin that finds a heavy balm too much in warmer months. It is doing the sealing job that a toner or serum is not built for. The honest test is whether the face still feels comfortable several hours after you put it on.

Is this a day cream or a night cream?

It can be either. A moisturizer of this kind is used morning and evening, with sunscreen going over it during the day and nothing over it at night. If your skin runs oily by the afternoon, keep it to the evening and use something lighter in the morning rather than skipping the step altogether.

What if my skin still feels dry afterwards?

Add a second thin pass on the dry areas rather than one heavy layer everywhere, and put it on while the skin is still damp from the step before. A cream spreads much further and works better over a damp surface. If the whole face still feels tight, the step underneath it is usually the one that needs changing.

Can I use this on my neck as well?

Yes, and whatever is left on the fingertips is exactly the right amount for it. Sweep upward from the base of the neck rather than dragging downward. The neck is thinner skin and usually gets less attention than the face, so it is worth including in the same pass rather than treating separately.

Is this the Korean formula, or a US version of it?

How it works

It is a cream you can spread thin, closer to a gel cream than to an ointment. It settles matte enough to sit under sunscreen, which is what makes it usable in the morning as well as at night. A watery layer cannot hold a routine down the way this does, which is why the cream goes on last of the leave-on steps. It belongs at the end of the layering order, once everything thinner is already on. You can judge it on comfort through the day and how the skin looks the next morning.

Water solvent: Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
Glycerin humectant: Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
Butylene Glycol humectant: Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.
Dimethicone silicone: Dimethicone is the most used cosmetic silicone. It forms a breathable film that smooths the surface, slows water leaving skin, and gives the slip that makes a primer or cream feel silky. It is inert and does not penetrate.
Squalane emollient: Squalane is the stable, saturated version of squalene, a lipid human skin already makes. It is a light emollient that absorbs quickly, does not oxidise, and is one of the few oils widely considered safe for blemish-prone skin. Most cosmetic squalane is now from sugarcane or olive rather than shark.
1,2-Hexanediol humectant: 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
Betaine humectant: Betaine is a sugar-beet-derived humectant that cells use to hold water. In a formula it hydrates and takes the edge off cleansers and acids, which is why it often appears alongside them.
Cetearyl Alcohol fatty alcohol: Cetearyl Alcohol is a waxy solid, not the drying kind of alcohol. It is a blend of cetyl and stearyl alcohols used to thicken a cream and keep oil and water from separating, and it softens skin as it does so.
Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer thickener: This is a synthetic thickener that gels quickly and holds an emulsion stable across a wide pH range. It gives a light, non-tacky body.
Hydrogenated Rice Bran Oil emollient: Rice bran oil with hydrogen added, which turns it from a liquid into a soft solid. It thickens an oil phase and resists going rancid.
Hydrogenated Lecithin emulsifier: Hydrogenated Lecithin is lecithin with its unsaturated bonds filled in, which makes it far more stable. It emulsifies and is the standard shell for the liposomes that carry actives into the outer layer of skin.
