How it works

The 8 Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Gentle Foaming Cleanser is a 150ml foam cleanser, used as your first step, morning and evening, on a face already wet with lukewarm water. The humectant it is built around is Sodium Hyaluronate, named tenth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Zinc PCA, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein and Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, so the humectant is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Sodium Hyaluronate stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the foam cleanser format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the foam cleanser Anua sells in Korea, Sodium Hyaluronate and all.

Key benefits

  • Sodium Hyaluronate, the humectant this foam cleanser is built around
  • Zinc PCA on the same list, an active
  • Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein on the same list, a protein
  • Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid and Hyaluronic Acid on the same list, humectants
  • Potassium Hyaluronate and Panthenol further down the same list
  • Sodium Hyaluronate named tenth on the manufacturer list printed on this page

Key actives

Sodium Hyaluronatehumectant

Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid, and it is what most products labelled hyaluronic actually contain. The salt dissolves more readily and the molecule is smaller, so it sits in the outer layer of skin rather than only on top of it. It is the entry this foam cleanser is named after, and the list carries it.

Zinc PCAactive

Zinc PCA pairs zinc with the humectant PCA. It is used in oily and blemish-prone formulas for the look of shine and visible pores, and it hydrates at the same time. The panel names it eighteenth on this foam cleanser's list, beside Sodium Hyaluronate.

Hydrolyzed Vegetable Proteinprotein

Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein is plant protein cut into water-soluble fragments. It forms a light conditioning film that holds water at the surface. It is named eighth on this foam cleanser's list, alongside Sodium Hyaluronate.

Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acidhumectant

Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid is hyaluronic acid cut into much shorter fragments. The smaller the fragment, the further into the outer layer it can settle, which is why serums stack several sizes together instead of using one. The panel names it eleventh on this foam cleanser's list, beside Sodium Hyaluronate.

Hyaluronic Acidhumectant

Hyaluronic Acid is a sugar chain the body already makes, and one gram of it can hold several litres of water. In a formula it is a humectant that pulls water to the surface of skin and holds it in a film, which is what makes skin look plumper while it is there. The panel names it thirteenth on this foam cleanser's list, beside Sodium Hyaluronate.

How to use

  1. Use the 8 Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Gentle Foaming Cleanser as your first step, morning and evening, on a face already wet with lukewarm water.
  2. A short pump or a pea of product is enough. Work it into a lather in wet hands for about twenty seconds before it touches the face.
  3. Rinse with lukewarm water and go straight on to your toner while skin is still damp, because a humectant layer has more to hold on to on a damp face.
  4. Twice a day is the ceiling. Do not follow it with a second cleanse in the morning, when there is no sunscreen or makeup left on the face to remove.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this foam cleanser on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Sodium Hyaluronate on the list.
  • Introduce this foam cleanser on its own for the first week, so anything your skin does is traceable to the Sodium Hyaluronate rather than to three changes at once.

  • Hyaluronic acid helps bind water to collagen, which traps water in the skin. That helps make the skin more plump and full-looking.
