How it works

The Heartleaf 70+ Hyaluron Daily Lotion is a 200ml lotion, used as the last skincare step, morning and evening, over serum. The humectant it is built around is Sodium Hyaluronate, named fourteenth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract and Amaranthus Caudatus Seed Extract, so the humectant is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Sodium Hyaluronate stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the lotion format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the lotion Anua sells in Korea, Sodium Hyaluronate and all.

Key benefits

  • Sodium Hyaluronate, the humectant this lotion is built around
  • Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract and Amaranthus Caudatus Seed Extract on the same list, plant extracts
  • Ethylhexyl Stearate on the same list, an emollient
  • Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin) and Arginine further down the same list
  • Trehalose and Glucose further down the same list
  • Sodium Hyaluronate named fourteenth on the manufacturer list printed on this page

Key actives

Sodium Hyaluronatehumectant

Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid, and it is what most products labelled hyaluronic actually contain. The salt dissolves more readily and the molecule is smaller, so it sits in the outer layer of skin rather than only on top of it. The name on the box points at it, and it is named fourteenth on this lotion's own ingredient list.

Houttuynia Cordata Extractplant extract

Houttuynia Cordata is heartleaf, and it is one of the two or three anchor plants of Korean calming skincare. Its extract carries quercitrin and other flavonoids and is used for the look of redness and blemish-prone skin. It is named first on this lotion's list, alongside Sodium Hyaluronate.

Ulmus Davidiana Root Extractplant extract

Ulmus Davidiana is Japanese elm, whose inner bark yields a naturally slippery mucilage. Korean formulas use the root extract for that cushioned feel and for the look of reactive skin. It is named eleventh on this lotion's list, alongside Sodium Hyaluronate.

Amaranthus Caudatus Seed Extractplant extract

Amaranth seed extract, carrying squalene, sterols and peptides. It is used as a conditioning extract. The panel names it twelfth on this lotion's list, beside Sodium Hyaluronate.

Ethylhexyl Stearateemollient

Ethylhexyl Stearate is an ester emollient with a slightly richer feel than the palmitate. It softens skin and helps a formula spread evenly. It is named fifth on this lotion's list, alongside Sodium Hyaluronate.

How to use

  1. Use the Heartleaf 70+ Hyaluron Daily Lotion as the last skincare step, morning and evening, over serum.
  2. Pump once or twice on your fingers. Smooth over your face and neck. Layer the cream on multiple times during dry winter seasons for extra moisturizing effect.
  3. Serum first, this second, then sunscreen in the morning. On dry skin a richer cream can go over it at night.
  4. Twice a day. Do not decant it into a smaller jar to travel with; an emulsion in a pump is packaged that way to keep it stable.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test on the inner arm before applying to the face, as with any new skincare formula.
  • Introduce a new active gradually into an existing routine rather than adding several new products at once.

What professionals say

What professionals say

What skin-care professionals say about the key actives in this formula, quoted from the medical sources linked beside each.

  • Hyaluronic acid helps bind water to collagen, which traps water in the skin. That helps make the skin more plump and full-looking.

  • Its potential for skincare is promoted because of its anti-inflammatory (think blemishes, rashes, eczema) and hydrating properties.
