How it works

The Niacinamide Tranexamic Acid Brightening Booster Toner is a 250ml toner, used straight after cleansing, morning and evening, while the face is still damp. The active it is built around is Tranexamic Acid, named fifteenth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Niacinamide, Adenosine and Kojic Acid, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Tranexamic Acid stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the toner format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the toner Anua sells in Korea, Tranexamic Acid and all.

Key benefits

  • Tranexamic Acid, the active this toner is built around
  • Niacinamide, Adenosine and Kojic Acid on the same list, actives
  • Cyanocobalamin on the same list, a vitamin
  • Pyridoxine HCl and Phloretin further down the same list
  • Glutathione and Biosaccharide Gum-1 further down the same list
  • Tranexamic Acid named fifteenth on the manufacturer list printed on this page

Key actives

Tranexamic Acidactive

Tranexamic Acid is a synthetic amino acid derivative used for the look of stubborn discolouration and post-blemish marks. It is water soluble, stable and comfortable next to niacinamide, which is how it is usually paired. The name on the box points at it, and it is named fifteenth on this toner's own ingredient list.

Niacinamideactive

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is named second on this toner's list, alongside Tranexamic Acid.

Adenosineactive

Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated. It is named eighteenth on this toner's list, alongside Tranexamic Acid.

Kojic Acidactive

Kojic Acid comes from the fermentation of rice by Aspergillus, the mould used to make sake. It is used in formulas addressed to the look of uneven tone, and it darkens in air. It is named twenty-ninth on this toner's list, alongside Tranexamic Acid.

Cyanocobalaminvitamin

Cyanocobalamin is vitamin B12, and it is a deep pink-red, which is why a formula carrying it often has a colour nobody added on purpose. It is used as a conditioning vitamin. It is named twenty-fifth on this toner's list, alongside Tranexamic Acid.

How to use

  1. Cleanse first, then apply the toner to the face while skin is still slightly damp.
  2. Pat it in with clean hands or sweep it on with a cotton pad, whichever you prefer.
  3. Follow with your serum or moisturizer once the toner has settled in.
  4. Do not use this in place of a dedicated brightening serum if you are looking for a stronger, more concentrated dose of the same actives, since the toner is built as a lighter everyday layer instead.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this toner on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Tranexamic Acid on the list.
  • Introduce this toner on its own for the first week, so anything your skin does is traceable to the Tranexamic Acid rather than to three changes at once.
