How it works
The Soothing Barrier Cleansing Foam is a 120ml foam cleanser, used as your first step, morning and evening, on a face already wet with lukewarm water. The plant extract it is built around is Chlorella Vulgaris Extract, named sixteenth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Angelica Keiskei Extract and Corchorus Olitorius Leaf Extract, so the plant extract is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Chlorella Vulgaris Extract stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the foam cleanser format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the foam cleanser Biodance sells in Korea, Chlorella Vulgaris Extract and all.
Key benefits
- Chlorella Vulgaris Extract, the plant extract this foam cleanser is built around
- Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Angelica Keiskei Extract, Corchorus Olitorius Leaf Extract and Dioscorea Japonica Root Extract on the same list, plant extracts
- Hibiscus Esculentus Fruit Extract and Nelumbo Nucifera Root Extract further down the same list
- Glucose and Fructooligosaccharides further down the same list
- Chlorella Vulgaris Extract named sixteenth on the manufacturer list printed on this page
- The Korean-market release of this foam cleanser, confirmed against its Korean barcode
Key actives
Chlorella Vulgaris Extractplant extract
Chlorella Vulgaris is a freshwater green algae. Its extract carries proteins, chlorophyll and amino acids and is used as a conditioning ingredient. On this foam cleanser's own ingredient list it is named sixteenth.
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extractplant extract
Camellia Sinensis is the tea plant. Green tea leaf extract carries catechins, among the most studied plant antioxidants, and is used for the look of redness and oily shine. The panel names it twenty-ninth on this foam cleanser's list, beside Chlorella Vulgaris Extract.
Angelica Keiskei Extractplant extract
Ashitaba extract, a Japanese angelica relative rich in chalcones. It is used as an antioxidant conditioning extract. It is named thirty-first on this foam cleanser's list, alongside Chlorella Vulgaris Extract.
Corchorus Olitorius Leaf Extractplant extract
Jute mallow leaf extract. The leaf is notably mucilaginous, so the extract holds water and gives a slippery feel. It is named thirty-second on this foam cleanser's list, alongside Chlorella Vulgaris Extract.
Dioscorea Japonica Root Extractplant extract
Dioscorea Japonica is Japanese wild yam, whose root is naturally slippery with mucilage. Its extract hydrates and leaves a cushioned feel. The panel names it thirty-third on this foam cleanser's list, beside Chlorella Vulgaris Extract.
Biodance Soothing Barrier Cleansing Foam
Where does this foam cleanser go in my routine?
As your first step, morning and evening, on a face already wet with lukewarm water. Nothing goes under it: this foam cleanser is the step everything else in the routine lands on top of. If you are adding it to a routine you already like, give it a week on its own first, so what you see is the Chlorella Vulgaris Extract and not three changes at once.
Is this the Korean-market foam cleanser or a US version?
The Korean-market one, Chlorella Vulgaris Extract and all. We match this foam cleanser to its Korean barcode before it reaches the shelf, which is the check that tells you which market release you are holding.
What else is on the list besides Chlorella Vulgaris Extract?
Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Angelica Keiskei Extract and Corchorus Olitorius Leaf Extract. The order they are printed in on this foam cleanser's panel is the order on the box, so you can see where Chlorella Vulgaris Extract sits relative to them. Further down the same panel: Dioscorea Japonica Root Extract, Hibiscus Esculentus Fruit Extract and Nelumbo Nucifera Root Extract.

How to use
- Use the Soothing Barrier Cleansing Foam as your morning cleanse, and in the evening as the wash that follows an oil or balm.
- A short pump is enough. Work it to a lather in wet hands for about twenty seconds before it touches the face.
- Rinse with lukewarm water and go straight to your toner while skin is still damp, because a humectant layer has more to hold on to on a damp face.
- Twice a day is the ceiling. Do not double cleanse in the morning, when there is no sunscreen or makeup left on the face to remove.
Worth knowing
- Patch test this foam cleanser on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Chlorella Vulgaris Extract on the list.
- Introduce this foam cleanser on its own for the first week, so anything your skin does is traceable to the Chlorella Vulgaris Extract rather than to three changes at once.
