How it works
A hydrocolloid patch is a physical cover rather than a formula: it sticks to clean dry skin, absorbs what an open spot gives off, and keeps fingers away from the area. This version is oversized, which solves a specific problem, since a small round patch on a large or clustered spot leaves the edges exposed and lifts within hours. A bigger patch also spans a jaw or forehead area where several spots sit together, so one cover does the work of four. That is the difference from a standard patch, which is the sensible everyday size and simply runs out of area on a bad week. What you can judge is whether the patch has gone cloudy on removal.

How to use
- Cleanse and dry the area fully, since a patch will not hold onto damp or creamed skin.
- Position it so the whole spot or cluster is covered with a clear margin all the way round.
- Press the edges down firmly and leave it in place overnight rather than checking it during the night.
- Do not apply it over moisturizer or sunscreen, because it will lift within minutes and do nothing at all.
When do I need an extra large patch?
When a standard round one leaves the edges of a spot uncovered, or when several spots sit together on the jaw or forehead. A patch that does not fully cover an area lifts within hours and stops working. One large cover can replace four small ones on a bad week.
Where does it go in my routine?
Onto clean dry skin with nothing else on the area. Do the rest of your routine around it, keeping cream and sunscreen off the spot itself, since anything underneath stops the patch sticking. Most people apply one at the end of the evening and remove it in the morning.
Can I wear one during the day?
You can, though a large patch is more visible than a small one, so most people keep it for overnight. If you do wear it out, apply it to bare clean skin first and work makeup around the edges rather than over it, and expect the outline to show.
How long should I leave it on?
Overnight, or at least six hours. Lifting it early gives you a patch that no longer sticks and a spot you are now touching. If it goes cloudy and starts peeling at an edge before six hours, replace it with a fresh one rather than pressing the old one back down.
