How it works

The Amino Acid Gentle Bubble Cleanser is a 140ml foam cleanser, used as your first step, morning and evening, on a face already wet with lukewarm water. The active it is built around is Bisabolol, named thirty-ninth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Ceramide NP, Perilla Ocymoides Seed Extract and Glycine, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Bisabolol stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the foam cleanser format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the foam cleanser Dr.Althea sells in Korea, Bisabolol and all.

Key benefits

  • Bisabolol, the active this foam cleanser is built around
  • Ceramide NP on the same list, a barrier lipid
  • Perilla Ocymoides Seed Extract on the same list, a plant extract
  • Glycine and Serine on the same list, amino acids
  • Glutamic Acid and Aspartic Acid further down the same list
  • Leucine and Alanine further down the same list

Key actives

Bisabololactive

Bisabolol is the main active fraction of chamomile oil, usually supplied from candeia wood. It is used for the look of redness in formulas for reactive skin, and it helps other ingredients absorb. On this foam cleanser's own ingredient list it is named thirty-ninth.

Ceramide NPbarrier lipid

Ceramide NP is the most used cosmetic ceramide, the same class of lipid that makes up roughly half the mortar between cells in the outer layer of skin. Added to a cream it slots into that structure, which is why ceramide formulas feel less leaky rather than merely greasy. It is named forty-second on this foam cleanser's list, alongside Bisabolol.

Perilla Ocymoides Seed Extractplant extract

Perilla seed extract, from the herb Korean cooking knows as kkaennip. The seed is high in omega-3 fatty acids and the extract carries rosmarinic acid. The panel names it nineteenth on this foam cleanser's list, beside Bisabolol.

Glycineamino acid

Glycine is the smallest amino acid and one of the free amino acids skin holds to keep water in the outer layer. In a formula it is a humectant and a mild buffer. The panel names it twentieth on this foam cleanser's list, beside Bisabolol.

Serineamino acid

Serine is one of the most abundant free amino acids in the outer layer of skin, where it helps hold water. Added to a formula it is a humectant. It is named twenty-second on this foam cleanser's list, alongside Bisabolol.

How to use

  1. Use the Amino Acid Gentle Bubble Cleanser as your first step, morning and evening, on a face already wet with lukewarm water.
  2. A short pump or a pea of product is enough. Work it into a lather in wet hands for about twenty seconds before it touches the face.
  3. Rinse with lukewarm water and go straight on to your toner while skin is still damp, because a humectant layer has more to hold on to on a damp face.
  4. Twice a day is the ceiling. Do not follow it with a second cleanse in the morning, when there is no sunscreen or makeup left on the face to remove.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this foam cleanser on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Bisabolol on the list.
  • This list names Limonene, so skip it if fragrance components are something you avoid.
