Aqua Marine Jelly Mist
Sea water sits second on this 100 ml mist's list, ahead of three hyaluronic acid forms, with gellan gum and beta-glucan giving it a jelly body that stays put instead of evaporating. Sodium DNA, the PDRN entry, appears further down.

Key actives
9Beta-Glucanpolysaccharide
Beta-Glucan is a polysaccharide from oats or yeast. It holds a large amount of water, forms a soothing film, and is one of the ingredients formulators reach for in products aimed at reactive skin. It is named ninth on this mist's list, alongside Sodium DNA.
17Glycereth-25 PCA Isostearateemollient
Glycereth-25 PCA Isostearate is a water-dispersible emollient that softens skin and helps oils and water stay mixed. It reads as light rather than rich on the skin. The panel names it seventeenth on this mist's list, beside Sodium DNA.
19Sodium DNAactive
Sodium DNA is the salt of DNA, in Korean skincare almost always salmon derived, and it is the ingredient behind the PDRN category. It is used as a humectant and for the look of tired skin; the fragments themselves are what the name PDRN refers to. On this mist's own ingredient list it is named nineteenth.
22Arginineamino acid
Arginine is an amino acid that does two jobs here: it holds water in the outer layer of skin, and it neutralises acidic gelling agents, which is why it often stands in for a synthetic pH adjuster. It is named twenty-second on this mist's list, alongside Sodium DNA.
24Methyl Diisopropyl Propionamideactive
A synthetic cooling agent that gives the cool feeling of menthol without the mint smell. It is used where a formula wants the sensation but not the scent. The panel names it twenty-fourth on this mist's list, beside Sodium DNA.

Where does this mist go in my routine?
At any point in the day, over bare skin or over makeup. Anything thinner than a mist goes on before it, and anything richer goes on after. If you are adding it to a routine you already like, give it a week on its own first, so what you see is the Sodium DNA and not three changes at once.
Is this the Korean-market mist or a US version?
The Korean-market one, Sodium DNA and all. We match this mist to its Korean barcode before it reaches the shelf, which is the check that tells you which market release you are holding.
What else is on the list besides Sodium DNA?
Methyl Diisopropyl Propionamide, Beta-Glucan and Glycereth-25 PCA Isostearate. The order they are printed in on this mist's panel is the order on the box, so you can see where Sodium DNA sits relative to them. Further down the same panel: Arginine, Malachite Extract and Glycereth-26.
Not on the ingredient list below: fragrance or parfum, denatured or SD alcohol, essential oils, silicones, parabens, sulfate surfactants, mineral oil or petrolatum and added color.

25 of 25 explained
- Aqua (Water) solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Sea Water mineral
- Sea Water is filtered and desalinated seawater used in place of plain water. It carries magnesium, calcium and potassium, so it brings the mineral balance of the base closer to skin's own.
- Butylene Glycol humectant
- Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.
- 1,2-Hexanediol humectant
- 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
- Tripropylene Glycol solvent
- Tripropylene Glycol is a glycol used mainly as a solvent, keeping the rest of the formula dissolved and the texture fluid.
- Glycereth-26 humectant
- Glycereth-26 is a modified glycerin that hydrates with far less stickiness than glycerin itself. It is a common way to load water into a formula that has to stay light.
- Methylpropanediol humectant
- Methylpropanediol is a small glycol used to hydrate and to help water-soluble actives penetrate the outer layer of skin more evenly. It leaves almost no tack, which suits watery textures.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Beta-Glucan polysaccharide
- Beta-Glucan is a polysaccharide from oats or yeast. It holds a large amount of water, forms a soothing film, and is one of the ingredients formulators reach for in products aimed at reactive skin.
- Xylitol humectant
- Xylitol is a sugar alcohol humectant. It holds water in the outer layer of skin and is often paired with anhydroxylitol and xylitylglucoside as a hydration trio.
- Propanediol humectant
- Propanediol is a plant-derived glycol used in place of propylene glycol. It hydrates, carries actives into solution, and gives a lighter, less sticky slip than glycerin at the same strength.
- Hyaluronic Acid humectant
- Hyaluronic Acid is a sugar chain the body already makes, and one gram of it can hold several litres of water. In a formula it is a humectant that pulls water to the surface of skin and holds it in a film, which is what makes skin look plumper while it is there.
13 more explained
- Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid humectant
- Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid is hyaluronic acid cut into much shorter fragments. The smaller the fragment, the further into the outer layer it can settle, which is why serums stack several sizes together instead of using one.
- Sodium Hyaluronate humectant
- Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid, and it is what most products labelled hyaluronic actually contain. The salt dissolves more readily and the molecule is smaller, so it sits in the outer layer of skin rather than only on top of it.
- Sodium Chloride thickener
- Sodium Chloride is salt. In a cleanser it thickens the liquid; in a mask or essence it balances the mineral content of the water phase. It has no active role.
- Hydroxyacetophenone preservative booster
- Hydroxyacetophenone is an antioxidant that also strengthens a preservative system, so a formula needs less traditional preservative. Korean formulas pair it with 1,2-hexanediol constantly.
- Glycereth-25 PCA Isostearate emollient
- Glycereth-25 PCA Isostearate is a water-dispersible emollient that softens skin and helps oils and water stay mixed. It reads as light rather than rich on the skin.
- Gellan Gum thickener
- Gellan Gum is a fermentation-derived polysaccharide that sets a clear, brittle gel at very low levels. It is used to suspend particles without thickening the liquid much.
- Sodium DNA active
- Sodium DNA is the salt of DNA, in Korean skincare almost always salmon derived, and it is the ingredient behind the PDRN category. It is used as a humectant and for the look of tired skin; the fragments themselves are what the name PDRN refers to.
- Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate chelator
- A readily biodegradable chelator used in place of EDTA. It ties up trace metal ions in the water so they cannot spoil the formula.
- Malachite Extract mineral
- Malachite is a green copper carbonate mineral. Its extract is used in a formula as a source of trace copper.
- Arginine amino acid
- Arginine is an amino acid that does two jobs here: it holds water in the outer layer of skin, and it neutralises acidic gelling agents, which is why it often stands in for a synthetic pH adjuster.
- Ethylhexylglycerin preservative booster
- Ethylhexylglycerin softens skin and boosts a preservative system, which is why it is nearly always sitting beside phenoxyethanol or 1,2-hexanediol. It also cuts down the odour bacteria produce, so it turns up in deodorising products.
- Methyl Diisopropyl Propionamide active
- A synthetic cooling agent that gives the cool feeling of menthol without the mint smell. It is used where a formula wants the sensation but not the scent.
- Disodium EDTA chelator
- EDTA is a chelator: it locks up trace metal ions from water and packaging that would otherwise turn a formula cloudy, off-colour or rancid. It does nothing to skin and appears at a fraction of a percent.

How it works
The Aqua Marine Jelly Mist is a 100ml mist, used at any point in the day, over bare skin or over makeup. The active it is built around is Sodium DNA, named nineteenth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Methyl Diisopropyl Propionamide, Beta-Glucan and Glycereth-25 PCA Isostearate, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Sodium DNA stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the mist format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the mist Dr.Althea sells in Korea, Sodium DNA and all.
How to use
- Use the Aqua Marine Jelly Mist after cleansing, in the prep slot your toner would take, morning and evening.
- Hold it about an arm's length from the face, two or three presses, then press what lands in with your palms.
- Follow with your serum while the face is still damp, because the layer above has more to hold on to on damp skin.
- Use it as often as skin feels tight, including over makeup. Do not rub it in with a towel or a tissue, which takes the layer straight back off.
Worth knowing
- Patch test on the inner arm first, as with any new step added to a routine.
- Discontinue if irritation develops and check the ingredient list against any known sensitivity.
