How it works
The Gentle Pore Vegan Cleansing Oil is a 150ml cleansing oil, used as the first of two evening cleanses, on dry skin and dry hands, before any water reaches the face. The antioxidant it is built around is Tocopheryl Acetate, named twenty-sixth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Ceramide NP, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract and Coccinia Indica Fruit Extract, so the antioxidant is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Tocopheryl Acetate stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the cleansing oil format rather than by the list alone. Dr.Althea sells this Tocopheryl Acetate cleansing oil in Korea, and this is that version.
Key benefits
- Tocopheryl Acetate, the antioxidant this cleansing oil is built around
- Ceramide NP on the same list, a barrier lipid
- Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract, Coccinia Indica Fruit Extract and Solanum Melongena (Eggplant) Fruit Extract on the same list, plant extracts
- Aloe Barbadensis Flower Extract and Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract further down the same list
- Ocimum Sanctum Leaf Extract and Corallina Officinalis Extract further down the same list
- Tocopheryl Acetate named twenty-sixth on the manufacturer list printed on this page
Key actives
Tocopheryl Acetateantioxidant
Tocopheryl Acetate is a stable vitamin E ester that skin converts to tocopherol. It is used as an antioxidant and a light emollient and holds up better than plain vitamin E in a formula. On this cleansing oil's own ingredient list it is named twenty-sixth.
Ceramide NPbarrier lipid
Ceramide NP is the most used cosmetic ceramide, the same class of lipid that makes up roughly half the mortar between cells in the outer layer of skin. Added to a cream it slots into that structure, which is why ceramide formulas feel less leaky rather than merely greasy. The panel names it thirtieth on this cleansing oil's list, beside Tocopheryl Acetate.
Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extractplant extract
Melia Azadirachta is neem. Its leaf and flower extracts are long-standing Ayurvedic ingredients, and Korean formulas use them in products aimed at the look of congested, blemish-prone skin. It is named ninth on this cleansing oil's list, alongside Tocopheryl Acetate.
Coccinia Indica Fruit Extractplant extract
Coccinia Indica is ivy gourd. Its fruit extract is used as a conditioning, hydrating plant extract in Korean formulas. The panel names it twelfth on this cleansing oil's list, beside Tocopheryl Acetate.
Solanum Melongena (Eggplant) Fruit Extractplant extract
Eggplant Fruit Extract carries nasunin, the antioxidant pigment in aubergine skin. It is used as an antioxidant plant extract. It is named thirteenth on this cleansing oil's list, alongside Tocopheryl Acetate.
Dr. Althea Gentle Pore Vegan Cleansing Oil
Where does this cleansing oil go in my routine?
As the first of two evening cleanses, on dry skin and dry hands, before any water reaches the face. Nothing goes under it: this cleansing oil is the step everything else in the routine lands on top of. If you are adding it to a routine you already like, give it a week on its own first, so what you see is the Tocopheryl Acetate and not three changes at once.
Does this cleansing oil contain fragrance?
Yes. The ingredient list names Limonene. It sits on the panel printed on this page, so you can read the position for yourself before you buy. If fragrance components are something you avoid, this cleansing oil is not the one.
What else is on the list besides Tocopheryl Acetate?
Ceramide NP, Melia Azadirachta Leaf Extract and Coccinia Indica Fruit Extract. The order they are printed in on this cleansing oil's panel is the order on the box, so you can see where Tocopheryl Acetate sits relative to them. Further down the same panel: Solanum Melongena (Eggplant) Fruit Extract, Aloe Barbadensis Flower Extract and Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract.

How to use
- Use the Gentle Pore Vegan Cleansing Oil as the first of two evening cleanses, on dry skin and dry hands, before any water reaches the face.
- Two or three full pumps, massaged over dry skin for a full minute so sunscreen and makeup have time to dissolve.
- Add a little water and keep massaging until it turns milky, rinse, then follow with a water-based cleanser. That second wash is what takes the oil off.
- Once a day, in the evening. Do not use it as your morning cleanse; there is nothing on a face at seven in the morning that needs an oil to lift it.
Worth knowing
- Patch test this cleansing oil on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Tocopheryl Acetate on the list.
- This list names Limonene, so skip it if fragrance components are something you avoid.
