How it works

The Baking Powder B.B Deep Cleansing Foam is a 160ml spot powder, used at the end of the evening routine, on clean, dry skin. The emollient it is built around is Glycol Distearate, named eighth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries PEG-32 and Myristic Acid, so the emollient is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Glycol Distearate stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the spot powder format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the spot powder ETUDE sells in Korea, Glycol Distearate and all.

Key benefits

  • Glycol Distearate, the emollient this spot powder is built around
  • PEG-32 on the same list, a humectant
  • Myristic Acid on the same list, a fatty acid
  • Glycol Distearate named eighth on the manufacturer list printed on this page
  • The Korean-market release of this spot powder, confirmed against its Korean barcode

Key actives

Sodium Bicarbonate

The baking soda this line is named for sits mid list, a mild alkaline exfoliating ingredient Korean cleansers use for a deeper feeling clean on residue like sunscreen or long-wear base makeup.

Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran

Rice bran, positioned among the later ingredients, is a gentle physical texture Korean cleansing foams use for a mild polishing feel alongside the chemical cleansing action of the surfactant base.

Cocamidopropyl Betaine

A mild, amphoteric surfactant that softens the cleansing action of the stronger fatty-acid soaps higher on this list, keeping the foam from feeling as stripping as a plain soap bar.

Glycol Distearate

A pearling and thickening ingredient among the mid-list components, giving this foam its opaque, cushioned lather texture rather than a thin, clear rinse. It is a texture ingredient rather than an active, but it is what makes the cleanse feel rich in the hand.

How to use

  1. Wet the face with lukewarm water first, rather than rushing through this step.
  2. Dispense a small amount into the palm and work it into a light lather with a little more water.
  3. Massage over the face for around thirty seconds, avoiding the eye area.
  4. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and follow with toner.

Worth knowing

  • Keep the lather away from the eyes, since a foaming cleanser can sting if it gets in.
  • Rinse with lukewarm rather than hot water, since hot water can leave skin feeling tighter afterward.
