How it works
As a dedicated eye-makeup remover, this product's job is to dissolve long-wear or waterproof mascara that a regular face cleanser struggles to fully remove. Its solvent base binds to the wax and pigment in mascara formulas on contact, loosening it from the lashes. Holding a soaked pad against closed eyes for a few seconds gives that solvent time to work before wiping. Wiping downward in gentle strokes, rather than rubbing side to side, is what removes the dissolved mascara without tugging on the lashes. Used before the rest of the face is cleansed, it clears stubborn eye makeup that a facial cleanser alone would need much more scrubbing to shift.
Key benefits
- ETUDE Korean-market mascara remover, 80 ml
- A targeted eye-makeup removal step, used before the rest of the face is cleansed
- Ships with its Korean barcode and batch code intact, not swapped for an export label
How to use
- Use the HOUSE Mascara Remover before you cleanse in the evening, on eye and lip makeup only, while the face is still dry.
- Soak a cotton pad, hold it flat against closed eyes or over the lips for about twenty seconds so the makeup lifts on its own, then draw it away in one direction.
- It comes before the cleanse, not instead of it. Follow with your usual first cleanse over the whole face and then the second, so nothing it loosened is left sitting on the skin.
- On the evenings you have worn eye or lip makeup, and only those. Do not spread it over the whole face; it is built for the two areas a face cleanser is not meant to go, and the rest of the face is the cleanser's job.
When do I use HOUSE Mascara Remover?
HOUSE Mascara Remover is a targeted eye-makeup removal step, used before the rest of the face is cleansed. Work it into your routine at that point rather than swapping it in for a different step, since the timing is part of how a Korean routine sequences a mascara remover.
How much HOUSE Mascara Remover should I use?
A little goes further than it looks: most people use a coin-sized amount or a few pumps for the face, then adjust up or down once they see how their skin responds over the first week.
Is this the same formula sold in Korea?
Yes. This is the Korean-market ETUDE release, imported with its original Korean-language packaging, barcode, and batch code intact, rather than a version reformulated or repackaged for US retail. We check that batch code against the one on the box before it ships, instead of relying on the listing alone.
Can I use HOUSE Mascara Remover if I have sensitive skin?
Patch test on the inner arm before the first full-face application, as with any new formula, and watch for redness or stinging over the following day before working it into daily use.
How long does one 80 ml of HOUSE Mascara Remover last?
That depends on how much you apply each time and how often, but a typical full-size bottle used once or twice a day generally lasts one to two months for most people.

17 of 20 explained
- Water/Aqua/Eau solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Cyclopentasiloxane silicone
- Cyclopentasiloxane is a volatile silicone: it spreads a formula thin and smooth then evaporates, leaving no residue. It is the silicone behind a dry, powdery primer finish.
- Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil emollient
- Coconut Oil is high in lauric acid, which makes it a rich emollient and partial occlusive. It is well known to be poorly suited to blemish-prone skin.
- Isododecane solvent
- Isododecane is a light, volatile hydrocarbon. It carries pigments and film formers on smoothly and then evaporates, leaving the film behind and nothing oily.
- Hexylene Glycol solvent
- Hexylene Glycol is a solvent and light humectant. It keeps ingredients that resist water in solution and thins a formula so it spreads evenly.
- Coco-Caprylate/Caprate emollient
- Coco-Caprylate/Caprate is a coconut-derived ester used as a light, dry emollient in place of silicone. It spreads far and leaves a soft finish.
- Sodium Chloride thickener
- Sodium Chloride is salt. In a cleanser it thickens the liquid; in a mask or essence it balances the mineral content of the water phase. It has no active role.
- Phenoxyethanol preservative
- Phenoxyethanol is the most widely used cosmetic preservative outside the paraben family. It keeps a water-containing formula from growing bacteria and mould, and is capped at one percent in most markets, so it always sits low on a list.
- Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside surfactant
- Caprylyl/Capryl Glucoside is a sugar-derived cleansing surfactant. It foams modestly and is mild enough for low-pH cleansers built for reactive skin.
- Potassium Phosphate pH adjuster
- Potassium Phosphate is a buffer salt used to hold a formula at the pH its actives need.
- Disodium EDTA chelator
- EDTA is a chelator: it locks up trace metal ions from water and packaging that would otherwise turn a formula cloudy, off-colour or rancid. It does nothing to skin and appears at a fraction of a percent.
- Ethylhexylglycerin preservative booster
- Ethylhexylglycerin softens skin and boosts a preservative system, which is why it is nearly always sitting beside phenoxyethanol or 1,2-hexanediol. It also cuts down the odour bacteria produce, so it turns up in deodorising products.
5 more explained
- Dipotassium Phosphate pH adjuster
- Dipotassium Phosphate is a buffer salt. Paired with its more acidic partner it holds a formula at a steady pH.
- Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract plant extract
- Roman chamomile flower extract. It carries flavonoids and is one of the classic plant ingredients in formulas aimed at the look of reddened skin.
- Alcohol solvent
- Alcohol here means ethanol. It dissolves ingredients water cannot, evaporates fast so a formula sets quickly and does not feel heavy, and thins texture. In quantity it can leave dry or reactive skin feeling tight, which is why many Korean formulas avoid it and some deliberately use it for a fast, weightless finish.
- Butylene Glycol humectant
- Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.
- Tris(Tetramethylhydroxypiperidinol) Citrate antioxidant
- A hindered-amine antioxidant used to keep a formula from breaking down in light and air. It works on the product rather than on skin.
